The real name of this large sandy beach is Ramla il Hamra. It is located on the northern side of Gozo.

The peculiarity of this beach is that the color of the sand is orange.

The pic here was taken in the evening.

    Ramla Bay

Next stop was soon reached - we didn't spend loads of time in the jeep at all, plenty of stops were made and we could spend as much time or as little as we needed. So here we are at Ramla Bay - and we were the only ones here! The Bay can be reached from the village of Nadur, Gozo's largest village. The sand here is an amazing red/orange colour. Really enjoyed walking on the beach here and seeing the coastal scenery around. There are Roman remains close to the beach as well as the famous Calypso's Cave (the cave referred to by Homer in The Odyssey, where the nymph Calypso lived) at the top of the cliffs on the Western side of the beach.

    Ramla Bay - Monument

There's some kind of monument on the sands at Ramla Bay. It's a statue of The Madonna & Child and was erected in 1881 to "give protection to bathers and sea-farers"
An inscription says that if you "recite the Salve Regina in front of the statue you will get 100 days indulgence" - whatever that means!
But anyway, it's a good place to leave your bike, apparently!

    Ramla Bay

This bay is one of the most beautiful and popular in Gozo. It is located on the northern part of the island, at the bottom of a valley. The main beauty of the beach lies in the colour of the sand - a spectacular golden red. The typical countryside surrounding the beach add to its allure. There are plenty of archaeological treasures in this area ... particularly Roman ruins, and archaeologists believe that there is much yet to me discovered.

In Maltese this bay is known as 'Ir-Ramla il-Hamra' meaning the red sandy beach.

    Ramla Bay Beach

Ramla Bay Beach is one of Malta's nicest sandy beaches and it is the nicest in Gozo. The sand is an orangish color and the beach has a very picturesque setting.
