What to buy: The famous Maltese nougat, made of sugar and roasted almonds or hazelnuts, with different fresh flavours (banana, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla) can be bought from Marsaxlokk's market for a good price.

What to pay: Large pieces cost around Lm 2-3, while there is also a special offer of 3 small pieces for Lm 2-.

    The fish market

    by Diana75 Updated Nov 5, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

What to buy: Being considered the most popular fishing village and with most of Malta's fish supplies caught by local fishermen, it is obviously that a fish market couldn't miss in Marsaxlokk.

Every Sunday there is a fish market where tourists can buy fresh fish caught by local fishermen: swordfish, tuna and the popular "lampuki".

On weekdays, the catch is taken to the fish-market in Valletta, but on Sundays fish is sold in Marsaxlokk's fish market.

    The Market: Tourist Tack

by steventilly Updated Jun 23, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is a small market taking place every day alongside the harbour - right where the bus station is. So you cannot really avoid the market when you get off the bus. It's just to the right of this picture, but I managed to miss all trace of the market from all of my pictures, so it's not exactly obtrusive.

I had my doubts about this market, fearing we'd be bombarded with people trying to get us to buy stuff, but it was quite the opposite. The stall holders were all friendly and polite and did not try to push their wares at all. In the end we bought a quite lovely "100% Princess" Malta T-Shirt for our friends child - at the ridiculously cheap price of 1.5LM
Other stuff on offer was table cloths, candles, jewellery and so on.

On Sundays the market is apparently much bigger and also encompasses a fish market.

What to buy: Tourist-oriented crafts and goods.

What to pay: Nothing seemed to cost too much.

    Souvenirs from Malta

What to buy: Beside the famous Sunday fish market, a daily tourist market is also held in Marsaxlokk.

This market is the perfect place where one can find almost anything and can also bargain: hand-made knitted crochet table-cloths, clothes or souveniers, things to remind the wonderful time spent in Marsaxlokk.
