Favorite thing: In 1942 while 300 people were praying in the church a bomb penetrated the dome and landed on the mosaic floor, but did not explode. A replica of the bomb is today displayed in the church sacristy.

Pierre whispered to me that its size has been exaggerated.

Favorite thing: Unless you are serious church buff, you probably won´t need more than 15 minutes to see the Mosta Dome. When you are done viewing of the church, you can sit out front on the steps and watch the comings and goings in the city of real Maltese people:D

Mosta Church (Rotunda)

Favorite thing: Mosta church was much smaller in the past than it is now. Mosta village was very small with a few farmers. But as the village developed, people needed a bigger church.

Because destroying the former church and building a new one would took a lot of time, people decided to build a new church round the older one. The new Mosta church was built in 1614.

On 9 April 1942, the church was nearly destroyed when an Axis bomb
pierced its dome. the church was full of people on that time, but nobody was hurt, as the bomb failed to explode.

The church is impressive not only from the outside, but from the inside as well.
