steam: Better luck next time

by Dick33

This isn't a tip as such because I never went in.On New Years Eve a young man stood outside of steam and asked me to go inside I very politely said no thank you, he tried again and said I would have a good time and again I said no thank you so he said we have girls! and now he is holding my arm so I said a little firmer no thank's his reply was we have beautifull girls come on in you will like so I said you are barking up the wrong tree! He looked very confused and then the penny dropped and we both laughed.

Paceville: So many options...

by KIMBERLY_WMU

There really is no need to review each of the bars and clubs in Paceville because it really depends on your interests and the atmosphere that you prefer. Most of the bars do not have a cover and they are all so close together, so check them all out. If you are looking for a great dance atmosphere then you will have to wait until about 1:30 when things really pick up. Some of my favorite clubs were...Fuego, Havana, and Plush, but really...they were all fun. We found the best nights (in winter) were Wednesday and Saturday. Depends on where you go and what you are looking for. Just dress nice and fun!

22nd floor-Portomaso Tower: Great atmosphere with a view

by KIMBERLY_WMU

The Portomaso Tower was a wonderful place to go for an after dinner drink. We did not have a reservation, but were there aroud 11:00, so we were able to get a table. The couches are comfortable and the drinks are great. They make a great mojito. There was also really fun music and a gorgeous view. We left before the rush, but you could tell that it would transform into a great place to dance. It was a really romantic place with an older crowd--quite the contrast to Paceville--but we are at the age where we can appreciate both :) Dress nice

Fuego: Fun, casual atmosphere

by KIMBERLY_WMU

The music is primarily salsa, but they really mix it up so you do not get bored. It is just a really fun and casual environment. Best drinks in Malta--in my opinion. It was one of the best Sangria's I have ever had. Great place to go dancing after stopping at a few other bars. Casual, but nice.

The Sun in Splendour: Good times

by maltamags

The Sun in Splendour is one of the friendliest spots in town. Donald and Daniella The Proprietors are warm and welcoming, with snacks on the tables constantly and Charley the barman will keep you on your toes with his cheeky chat. They have music of all kinds to keep you amused and join in if you want. They have a wonderful enclosed beer garden with a small bar, lighting and heating for those dark and chilly nights, there is also a very large screen which is the back wall actually so you can enjoy what is on and nobody can get in your eye view. There is no dress code.

Paceville: Party in Paceville

by Ridders

As Paceville is Maltas main spot for nytlife, it guarantees big crowds all year round. I recently went in August an found it xtremely busy. Over the wkend in particular it can b very dificult 2 find space @ the main bars/clubs, but this will by no means ruin the nyt, only leav u in awe at the splendor of talent on show evrywher u look. Wkdays wer brilliant in Paceville as the place is stil busy but with slytly mor space 2 move on the dancefloors (only slytly). Buses run evry 15 mins frm all over the island, followd by nyt buses at 12am, 1am n 3am!The best way 2 enjoy Paceville is 2 start late an finish early. Arrive 10pm an find a table outsyd a pub, The Blackbull Pub bein a favourite spot of ours. 11pm we make our way to Empire, a club always busy on both floors. Empire plays dance music, but durin the summer u do get occasional 80's n pop songs. Nxt up, Wild Koyote, a pub/club tht mor...

Level 22: Dance on the top of Hilton Tower!

by brittwit

Yep, right on the top floor of the largest phallic symbol in Malta -the Hilton Tower in St.Julians -is a cool nighclub. Not for those who get vertigo. The vista, even post-midnight and after one or three mugs of wine, is awesome. This is Malta's over-30s finger to Paceville and its plethora of underage drinkers. Used to be exclusive membership until they realised the rich only buy on credit so it opened its doors to the plebs like me who dont know when to stop drinking..which can be a costly affair at this venue. First time I went there I nearly choked on my spliff when I ordered 3 bottles of Cisk, (the local beer which is normally 40-60 cents/1 euro approx) and was charged LM.4.50 (11 euros). Flat rate per drink madam, whether you order beer or wine or spirits! Yikes. Inspite of this downside, its popularity may prove to be its undoing-its small(ish) and usually packed to the gills. But...

Heat, Valletta Waterfront: Dancing Drinking & Dining (not at the same time!)

by brittwit

As far I'm concerned, the funnest place to go if you like to combine the outdoors with eating drinking and dancing. What shoes to wear you may ask! Well this place is one of the many outlets featured on the new Valletta Waterfront (which is one of Malta's few recent success stories in urban development). The location is divine, wide promenade, tree-lined (god I think the traditional Maltese tree-killing spree is over!), amazing vista of Valletta harbour and spoilt for culinary choice with the many restaurants. But Heat is the only one with a bit of a wild buzz and fortunately its not favoured by EU English students who still stick to Paceville. The menu offers interesting dishes, the wine list is quite well-ranged and whats best of all, come midnight and the DJ gets itchy and cranks up the volume. Well, he doesnt have to worry about neighbours complaining because the nearest residential...

2-22: New winebar/restaurant in Valletta

by brittwit

This is a so cool place for an evening of wining and dining. Its a very hip and elegantly furbished spot, converted from a huge domed warehouse set in the Valletta bastion wall. It has a lovely wide outdoor terrace with romantic lighting which will surely prove to be very romantic on summer nights since you can see the other side of Sliema harbour from this side of the Valletta bastions. Fantastic and very reasonable huge platters for those who dont want a serious meal; great wine list.
