Tra Buxu: Wine bars in Valletta

by brittwit

Tra Buxu, pronounced "tra booshoo" (yes the name's got that Maltese x means sh), meaning corkscrew, its a tiny cant-swing-a-cat-round place, a converted cellar located on the corner of the start of Strait Street in Valletta. I think you go second left after you enter Valletta and then first right (I usually go there when I've been drinking and leave when I've been drinking some more so I never remember directions to it precisely). There are a few stools and tables precariously placed on the steps outside, and inside there's about 10 tables (so dont plan on holding Friends Re-United reunions there). A good selection of wines and tasty platters. Its always crowded.

Bar + spa: What are you kidding me?

by Dick33

Naturally we didn't go in here but when I saw this sign I said to Ian Bar and spa my arse it's a gay feel up joint! He laughed at me so I explained why I said it. Gay men can't keep it in there pants at the best of times get them naked and plied with drink and it's a glorified brothel. Naked I would guess.

Boozing all night

by micajo

In Malta there are lots of clubs and discos where you can go and party all night long. There is this place called Paceville, that is full of clubs, discos and even restaurants. Maltese people usually they go out to dinner and then have a drink in a bar and then party all night in a disco or night club. If you come to Malta you'll enjoy it for sure

Wine bars around the island: wine and cheese maybe?

by dent

The trend nowadays for people in their late 20s onwards is to go to one of the many wine bars sprouting all over the island. more often than not, they are situated in converted old houses in the heart of the historic villages, In summer you can sit youtside in the square and watch the world, (or what passes for the world in these sleepy villages!) go by. Some of the more popular ones are Del Borgo in Birgu, Fra Giuseppe in Balzan and Etienne's in Attard. casual

St.Julians: Wine or beer sir?

by dent

Paceville is the night club area....loud, neon-lighted teeny and not so teeny bar area. Bars and restaurants cheek by jowl, overall standard a bit iffy. Bouncers at clubs notoriously bad-tempered and often racist. Slightest protest and you can end up in hospital. Havana is worst for this kind of thing.St.Julians bay is a bit quieter, restaurants certainly better, and overall age a bit higher. 2 Irish pubs with outdoor terrace in summer (Ryans and Dubliner) are very popular (Dubliner more 'Irish-ey'). Other good places are Gigis, Saddles and Muddy Waters, all around Spinola and Balluta Bay. casual

drink a little mingle a little

by dutyfree

If you want some night time fun and maybe a drink or two then head down to paceville/st julians is where the night time action happens. You will be able to find a nice place to have a drink and listen to some music if you chose. When you are out and about it is a good idea to dress for the occassion. Neat casual is always appreciated because when Europeans go out they make an effort to impress.

Dragonara: smell the stink/smell of m o n e y&real gamblers

by adonai_2012

In Malta there are 2 casinos (or were 4 yeras ago when I was there). I was located close to Dragonara with my hotel. It is worth going over there, gambling a bit (or more-due to ones own prefferences) and snoop watching people. I saw several life time gamblers I'll never forget.Entrance-free as in every casino. Bring passport and you'll get a casino ID usable in 18 months period any stuff would do...maybe *a bit* nicer, yet not neccessary fansy fansy :)

allover Bugibba: Brits on the Lash

by Dick33

Me and Jonny in St Pauls. As you can see we had sampled a lot of nightlife in Bugibba, we used to go from one happy hour to the next. We had worked out quite a good route around the resort.St Julians is much better but we really enjoyed it in Bugibba.Look at Jonny's face to see how much he enjoyed it, he was so pissed this night. Shorts anything really look at us two.

All: Nice time...

by scaffas

The clubs are nice and they play all kind of music from RnB to techno.... i liked it but one thing very strange in the disco's.... No men i mean it's all filled with women at first we thought we came to some kind of you know exclusive club but then i reckon there is a kind of virus in Malta that hit all the men,i guess it must be the men in the army or navy...so all the single men out there haheha....they have salsa classes most of the places.... so i guess the night life is as vibrant as Dubai...or say London Its kool...

The Dragonara: Casino

by Bilimari

It's a small casino (compared to the ones in Las Vegas and in Connecticut) by the bay, next to Westin hotel in St. Julian's, much like the ones in Prague. When you go there for the first time, they will take your personal information and ID photo, and issue you ID card. There are slot machines, card tables, bars, lounge areas, non-smoking section, etc.Opening hours:Weekdays - 10am to 6amWeekends - 24 hoursJuly, August, and September - open 24 hours, everyday! You must be 25 or older (Maltese citizens) or 18 or older (non Maltese citizens) to enter. Smart casual. No need to dress up, but put more clothes on than when you go to Las Vegas.
