Local Bocci Club: Floodlit Bocci

by steventilly

Bocci is a slant on the game of Boules and it seems that every Maltese town or village has its Bocci club (see sports tips). It was nice to sit at the Bugibba Bocci Club for a while and watch the game taking place. Casual (as a spectator).

All Over: Pubs

by steventilly

There are pubs & bars all over Malta. They're not identical to British pubs, but come pretty close with the addition of (usually) having waiter service as well as counter service. The biggest concentration of pubs is in St. Julians (especially Paceville) and Bugibba/Qawra. We visited a few of the ones in this latter area. Casual

Harmony Kiosk, etc: Beach Front Kiosks

by steventilly

Something of a Maltese speciality maybe - I've never seen these types of bars anywhere else - are Kisoks along the beach front. They serve everything from coffee to beer & spirits and a variety of hot and cold foods. Usually run by a family and staying open until the last customer has gone home.We visited several of the Kisk bars along the front at Qawra/Bugibba. Anything from beachwear upwards. One night we saw a girl there in a full evening gown - a little overdressed we thought.

NOT Sliema!

by jayhawk2000

Sliema is a popular residential area for the locals and its hotels attract families and older folk. 'Nightlife' is a stroll along the seafront and a drink in a seaside kiosk. If you want clubbing and late nights, head further up the coast to Paceville.

Paceville: Paceville

by Zlur

A town FULL of bars, pubs, discos, clubs, salsa bars, you name it, it's there! Most places remain open till the early hours of the morning. Alcohol is relatively cheap compared to other European countries, and most places are not strict with age. Everywhere is free to enter, except for some specific places, like a disco called 'Axis', you will have to pay a small fee at the door of about Lm2.00.Some of the best places to visit are: Fuego (Salsa/Latino), Barfunk (House/Trance), Axis (Commercial - House), Sabor (Commercial - Latino), The Alley (Rock), Havana (R&B, Hip-hop), Best in Town (Karaoke)... those are just to mention a few.....Just walk around and you'll definately find a club that suits your tastes!! If not, just move on :) Casual/Clubbing gear I guess!

Paceville: Let's party!

by challenger

Paceville, just a stone’s throw away from St Julian’s, is the place to be if you love partying the night away. Malta is quite hit and miss when it comes to pub opening hours – actually more miss than hit – so if you can’t live without your few bevvies a night, then make sure you stay in this area. The bars and night clubs often open until 07:00 in the morning, so no need to rush to down your last few pints as you’ve got all the time you need here.

PATCHY NIGHTLIFE

by Aang

DAVID BECKHAM The excellent travel.telegraph.co.uk has an article by David Sandhu from which I quote: "Compared to, say, Sardinia or Corsica, there isn't much glamour in Malta: it's cheap, mass market....even in the relatively upmarket resorts such as St Julians, the beaches are unimpressive, the luxury hotels rather impersonal. "You certainly wouldn't go for the nightlife - Valletta shuts down after dark and Paceville (patchy-ville)...lives up to its pronunciation. It's little wonder that the local press is feverishly speculating about whether David Beckham is about to follow his fellow Manchester United team mate, Pil Neville, in buying one of the new luxury penthouses at Portomaso, near St Julians...."

The Palm Tree: Nightife

by bhorton

Nightlife is not tough to find here. Just go to the St. Julian section of Valletta and you´ll find a buch of bars and clubs. The bars and clubs closer towards the beach are less formal, i.e. you can dance at an outside club or have a beer along the street. As you go more into town, the venues are generally typical night clubs, which means long pants and dress shoes are the rule. In other words, even though your travelling to a summer island, always pack dress clothes. dress pants and nice shirt and shoes at discos
