if you are going anywhere with rocky platforms into the sea make sure you take some shoes you can swim in with a good grip on the bottom as the rocks can get very slippy. All the maltese people seem to wear them but i didn't see any for sale while i was there. also from late august rainy season starts - i.e. half hour bursts monsoon like. take a lightweight waterproof jacket or a small umbrella. won't ruin your holiday as stays warm & over quickly, then soon dry. Your feet will get wet though as very heavy. hoigh factor sunscreen vital as very hot in summer - wear a hat! even most bottled water is reclaimed sea water, which is fine when cold but tastes horrible warm so try to get a fridge in yout room & take some squash to mix in bottled water for days out.
You may want to bring a backpack or a bag large enough to carry a bottle of water around in, especially during the summer months. It may not be that hot but the weather is fairly dry and the island is very dusty. Good walking shoes. Something that is comfortable because even if you take the buses you may have to walk quite a distance to arrive at where you are going. A hat is also something you should consider. The sun is strong in spring and summer months. You'll be glad you have it keeping the heat from the sun off your head wihle you see the temples, also good to cover your face with on the beach or by the pool. A strong sunscreen- This shouldn't have to be said but I'll recommend it anyway. It doesnt take long to burn in Malta. The higher the better because you will be almost constantly outdoors and on the go here.
Malta is best visited during its warmer months. The hottest time of year is between Jun and early September. Bring light weight clothing if you are here during that time. It really does get unbearably hot. Hats would be a good idea because the mid-day sun is brutal. Definately any beach gear would work here. Bring Aloe Vera; you probably will get burned at least once if you're here during the summer
Short sleeved clothes in summer!! Bring also a cap or hat and sunglasses. You'll need them. Almost any medical supplies and toiletries are available in local pharmacies. No worries. You can find photography shops all over the island. Use sun protection lotion with high SPF. UV indexes in summer go up to 10.

If May 2002 was typical of any other spring in Malta, you'll want sunscreen, shorts, a hat and sandals. It was warm, not hot, during the day, but the sun is VERY strong. Next to the sea the breeze is cool, almost chilly in the evening, so bring a fleece or jumper. A beach towel to wrap up in is handy if you're going on a boat ride across the open sea. We had a couple of overcast days, very occasional light showers and one big thunderstorm. It was frustrating to have sunny days that were too windy to spend on the beach...so we went hiking instead. Rent a video! Even Madonna wore her floppy hat when she came to Malta to make SWEPT AWAY with Guy Ritchie. It's not as bad as people said, but aside from a glimpse of the Blue Lagoon most of the movie was filmed on Sardinia. A halfway decent movie made in Malta (and Ireland) is COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. You'll spot many landmarks, including...
Suncream (or else purchase one here), if you come in summer you can bring only summer clothes with you, in june-july-august, and also in september one doesnt need any jackets or tick clothes with him cause the temperature is rarely below 30 degrees... it can be too hot, in august it can also reach 40....so be prepared...
normal cases I went in May and was in shorts and t-shirts but a jumper as well for night in April there had been bad thunderstorms for familys with kids make sure they have beach shoes as it is a volcanic island so only a few places with sand but they will enjoy fishing and playing in the rock pools take a small medical kit if possible and ladies you must take your tampax they are so expensive as with a lot of toiletries as they are imported take your own develope them at home I can't put any photos up yet I'm having trouble with my scanner
Ideally a hard cased bag to avoid any pilfering! Summer: light clothes, lots of sunscreen and a hat.Winter: can get cold and humid and wet, so bring appropriate gear Mosquito repellant! Most things can be found in shops. All films, batteries etc found here, bit more expensive though for developing. Wear sandals on the beach because the sand is not really cleaned, so you might easily step on a broken bottle left behind by civil-minded people.
Minimize Jet LagAs a traveler who frequently fly internationally here are some of my suggestions for minimizing the effects of jet lag.-Set your watch to the time of your destination when youboard the plane.-Begin shifting your sleep schedule several days ahead ofdeparture.-Starting a day or two before you leave, begin shifting thetime at which you eat meals. This helps reorient yourbiological clock and may cut down on nausea oftenassociated with jet lag.
