Craft Village Café: Rustic restaurant in the craft village

by Flying.Scotsman

The Craft Village Cafe is a rustic indoor/outdoor cafe with excellent food. I had a steak ftira and Mrs Flying.Scotsman had a traditional ftira with tuna, broad beans, tomatoes and capers. This is a good place for a light lunch when visiting the Craft Village.

Il-Kapitali Café: Maltese fare in corner café

by Flying.Scotsman

This café which still has a sign calling it the Caffé Manoel is situated directly across the street from the Manoel Theatre. We had an excellent lunch , starting with soup, then sharing a penne pasta, and a Maltese platter which included Gozo cheese and Maltese sausage. A good location not far from Republic Street and delicious value for money food make this an excellent choice in Valletta.

L'Escargot: Traditional fare with a view

by Flying.Scotsman

L'Escargot is near the top of the hill with views of the church and the sea beyond. We shared a Maltese platter which included broad beans, sundried tomatoes, Maltese sausage, Gozo cheese, bigilla, and the little Maltese crackers, washed down with a glass of Maltese Rosé wine.

La Stalla Restaurant: Good local restaurant

by Flying.Scotsman

La Stalla Restaurant is situated in the middle of things near the San Antonio Hotel &Spa. This seems to be one of the places where locals go for a meal. (Yes, there are locals in Bugibba). We had an early evening set meal which was quite good value but limited for choice. A good place for at least one meal if you are staying in the St Pawl's Bay – Bugibba area. Dishes include fresh fish and pizzas.

Cafe Royale, Valletta: Good place for a cake and a coffee

by Flying.Scotsman

The Cafe Royale at number 3, City Gate is an excellent place for a coffee and a pastry. Try one of the small almond biscuits – absolutely delicious. The staff are very friendly, and the cafe is very near the bus station at the entrance to Valletta.

Café Cuba: Excellent meals overlooking Marsamxett Harbour

by Flying.Scotsman

The Cafe Cuba (complete with Che Guevera posters) is on the south shore of Sliema (the Ferries), near where the hop on hop off bus stops. It has a lovely covered terrace, excellent staff and a menu that includes many Maltese dishes. We had cheese, and also pea pastizzis, ftiras (a kind of bruschetta sandwich), and bigilla, a bit like homous, but made from broad beans. This is an excellent choice for a reasonably priced meal.

Caffé Luna, Palazzo Parisio: Coffee and sorbet in a palace garden

by Flying.Scotsman

Caffé Luna in the Palazzo Parisio is well worth a visit. On a nice sunny afternoon it is a real pleasure to sit in the garden with a coffee and a dish of delicious sorbet and enjoy the sunshine. The gardens are beautiful and a perfect setting for this upmarket coffee and tearoom. There is also the house itself which is an 18th century baroque palace open to the public for an admission fee.

Ta Pawla Mother Earth: Is this the best restaurant in Malta?

by Flying.Scotsman

Is this the best restaurant in Malta? Probably not,but I haven't found a better one for excellent food at reasonable prices, with friendly and efficient staff. The décor is quirky but cosy with old advertisements around the bar. Our favourite dish was bragioli, a traditional Maltese dish of thin beefsteak wrapped around a sausage stuffing covered in tomatoes. A Danish tourist at the next table raved about the rabbit! The Ta Pawla is across the street from the San Antonia Hotel and Spa.

Fontanella Tearoom: Views and coffee

by Flying.Scotsman

One of the best views of the Maltese countryside is from the terrace of the Fontanella Cafe. The coffee is good and I'm sure some of the sweets and cakes are good, but we found the Black Forest gateau overly sweet and a bit artificial tastng. The atmosphere is lovely and combines indoor and outdoor seating . We didn't try any of the meals. This place is well worth a visit, just choose your dessert carefully.

Hard Rock Cafe: Disappointing!

by Balam

Our long walk from Valletta via Sliema ferry then around the coast to the hard Rock Cafe was not a waste but it certainly was not worth it to just visit this Hard Rock cafe. The exterior looked a little faded and tired but I put that down to the sun. We went inside past the well stocked Rock Shop into the cafe; all the tables were laid out for food with knives and forks wrapped in serviettes and bottles of Heinz tomato sauce on the tables. There were 4 people having a meal and no other customers, I suppose being in Malta's party capital it is going to be quiet during the day but all the other bars and restaurants had more people in, The staff seemed uninterested and we were approached by one who kind of grunted which I could only think should have been the usual “Hi Guys, are you looking to dine with us today or just drinks” it was however just a sort of questioning Yeh? We said we just...
