Priory Coffee Shop & Restaurant: Original, fresh and tasty

by tissie

The Priory coffee shop had only been opened a few months when we visited but was already proving very popular and has great plans for the future including lunchtime concerts. We were welcomed by the very personable Charlene who was enthusiastic while working very hard. The tables are usually for up to four people but Charlene will happily re-arrange them to suit larger parties. The coffee shop sells a good range of coffees, cakes and pastries, a selection of snack meals including delicious homemade soup - it was Valentine's Day on one of our visits and the celeriac in the soup was cut in little heart shapes. There are also specials and a good selection of interesting salads, larger main meals and a varied wine list - something to suit every taste and appetite. The coffee shop also has great toilets - something worth knowing in my opinion! Difficult to choose but it has to be the chocolate...

Il Galeone: Real food, friendly service

by tissie

Il Galeone is a family-run restaurant that is popular with local people and was actually recommended to us by a guy called Bob who we sat next to on the plane out to Malta! The dishes are mainly Italian but they have their own interpretations. Go for the specials on the blackboard - they'll be the most in season and the freshest and best available that day.The tables are lit by small candles and the restaurant looks quite dark from outside - don't be put off, it is open! The theme is of course the ship and the walls are adorned with interesting wheels, lights and ropes! The lemon and butter sauce is delicious (and is served with several options) but I have to vote for the steak as my favourite, with a brandy sauce, it came to the table alight and tasted tender and wonderful.

Corinthia room: Corinthia palace hotel

by Dick33

FANTASTIC!!! We had a five corse meal for 30 euros each and it was out of this World. I had Sushi then fried Gozo cheese then bacon and broccoli soup then pork in champagne sauce and veg then a chocolate moose but the waiter said would you like more and gave me some of everything off the trolly. The service was great and the ambience was lovely. I was amazed I never thought I would eat sushi but it was very nice, the cheese was a little strong for me the soup was so good the pork was tender and suculent and the sauce was fabulous I don't know where to start with the sweet as I had four all of them where first rate and all on one dinner plate I thought I had died and gone to heaven.

Luciano: not good service

by Dick33

I had ricotta ravioli I had a very long wait for. Ian had chicken burger only it wasn't a chicken burger it was dry chicken in a dry bun so I asked the waitress if we could have some mayonaise she told me to wait for my food so I got another waitress and asked again she said what are you getting? I explained it wasn't for me but the chicken sandwich she asked again what was I getting? I said it doesn't matter what I am getting it was for the chicken and pointed at the plate she came back and slamed the mayonaise on the table and stomped off. Ian had long since finished it when mine came. The ravioli was ok the service was poor. Ravioli it was ok

Il-Melita: Still hungry!

by Dick33

We tried to get a table twice and it was too busy si we thought it must be realy good, on the third attempt we got in and it was quite quiet. Both of us ordered the pork it was very nice in creamy sauce but very small 10 minets later the veg came one small bowl split in two one half had a couple of roast potatoes and the other half had aubergine and something else I dont like so all I had was a small bit of pork and a couple of small bits of potato it was delicious but not enough. So we both thought we would get a sweet only it wasn't to be they took the plates and never came back even though we said we would have a sweet so we went to the till and paid not very satisfied because we both needed more food. The pork was delicious what there was of it.

Fontanella: Non-existent service

by Scoobydoo5000

Three times I have been to Fontanella in Mdina and on all occasions, the service has been appalling. It is run by a bunch of kids who know nothing about serving customers. On the last two occasions I was determined to try their famed chocolate cake, but I left without ordering as I was being ignored by the waiters. I hear the chocolate cake is good... shame the service is sooooo bad I had to leave without it.

Villa Mare: Decent food

by littlebush

Villa Mare is located on the 'main square' (Bay square) in Bugibba, right by the sea front. They have an extensive menu and are reasonably priced.Between two of us, we had Rabbitt (A speciality in Malta!), Veal and a platter starter with a bottle wine for 34 euros.Another time we ate in here, we had 2 bottles of wine, Lamb shanks and a Maltese traditional 'Bragioli', and it was 32 euros. The staff are friendly too.they stay open til the last person leaves.

Carrubia Restaurant & Pizzeria: Good Value For Money

by Xemx

I went to the Carrubia upon a suggestion of a friend and wasn't disappointed. It has both indoor and outdoor seating. I always prefer sitting outside just by the water's edge which makes it really special. I've only been once to the Carrubia, so far that is, as I intend to make it a frequent habit. The food is good and the service is considerably fast and friendly, even when the restaurant is busy. The price is very reasonable - for three pizzas, one spaghetti with rabbit sauce, three beers and a soft-drink we paid only EUR 22.60. Nothing classy, just good value for money. So far, I've only tasted Carruba's pizza which is great. My friends also had pizza but one had spaghetti with rabbit sauce and thought it was delicious.
