The Mongolian Barbeque: Excellent experience!

by ChrisnJan

I absolutely loved this place, we had a lovely time here. All the food is raw and laid out buffet style, you choose your own ingredients, create your own meal and hand it to the chef who cooks it and hands it to a waiter/waitress who then brings it to your table. You pay a set price for the food and you can eat as much as you like, making as many trips to the buffet as you can manage. Naturally the bar bill is seperate and not included in the fixed price! The Mongolian Barbeque has branch's all over the world, including one in Covent Garden, London, so if you get the oppotunity I reccomend you give it a go!

Ir-Rizzu Restaurant: Fresh Seafood

by iwys

Ir-Rizzu Restaurant overlooks Marsaxlokk's fishing harbour, so it has some of the freshest seafood in Malta. It is has great food, nice wine and excellent service. It's very popular with local people.I had the aljotta (Maltese fish soup), which was delicious, mixed grilled fish and a bottle of local white wine. The bill for two came to €45.The only downside of the Ir-Rizzu is that you can't sit outside, like you can at some of the other restaurants in Marsaxlokk.

Cafe Jubilee: Gozo restaurant

by iwys

A cosy, very nicely decorated interior plus open air seating in the square. I ate lunch here. The item I wanted on the menu was not available so I ate a meat stew recommended by the waiter. The food was fine, but quite expensive.Cafe Jubilee is one of several cafes with open air sections in Pjazza Indipendenza. If you want to sit outside, which one you choose largely depends on the angle of the sun. When I was there Cafe Jubilee's section was the only one in the shade, which as it was a cool winter's day, was not good, so I ate inside.

Caffe Cordina: open air cafe

by iwys

Founded in 1837, Caffe Cordina is a great Maltese institution and a very nice place to sit in the middle of Valletta, enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine with an ice cream or a traditional Maltese pastry or snack, such as a pastizzo. Their pastizzi are slightly more expensive than in a typical hole-in-the-wall pastizzeria, but they are the best.Caffe Cordina also sells boxed selections of gourmet sweets and snacks. Their range includes the following products: Artichoke Hearts, Capers in Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Pate' Black Olive, Pate' Capers, Pate' of Green Olives, Red Peppers, Rucola and Sundried Tomatoes, Pitted Olives in Oil and Sundried Tomatoes, Caffe Italiano, Honey Rings, Almond and Chocolate Krustini, Nougat, Nougat Delights, Pastini, Sugared Almonds and Perlini. There are umbrellas above the tables to shade you from the sun and if the weather is bad, you can also sit inside

Fontanella: Be prepared to wait!!!

by Scoobydoo5000

The food, mostly cakes and pastries, is very good. The view from the ancient city walls of Mdina is spectacular. The service is probably the worst in Malta. Twice we have visited and had to wait 40 minutes on our last visit to get a glass of wine, a hot chocolate and 2 pastizzis. The first visit was about the same wait. Noone came with a menu, so we got up and helped ourselves to one while the waiter was sending and receiving text messages. The text messaging continued for the best part of 30 minutes. Other people were leaving without ordering. A really nice place let down by lazy, incompetent waiters. I would still take visitors here though, just for the amazing view! The cakes

The Lantern: Not up to expectations

by Scoobydoo5000

My wife and I chose this restaurant in Valletta because we had eaten there many, many years ago. Now under new management we had reasonable expectations of a good meal. My wife chose filet steak and I chose octopus in a tomato based sause - a local Maltese dish. The kitchen is within earshot of the dining area and, after our order reached the kitchen, there was some serious banging going on. When the filrt steak arrived, the source of the banging was revealed as the steak had no resemblence of filet, in either appearance or taste or texture - deffinitely not filet! The octopus, although it looked appetising, was tough - not how it is served in other restaurants. We summoned the waiter, paid for our drinks and left to find somewhere else to eat. N/A

Fontanella: The place to eat in Mdina

by englishtourist

Situated on the ramparts of Mdina, try to get a roof top table with great views over malta & the sea.Fontanella is a wine/coffee bar serving a good range of sandwiches, paninni's, baguettes etc, cakes and gateaux to die for..On a warm sunny day in January this restaurant was very busy, but then it was the only eating place open in Mdina that afternoon. Come the summer I expect there will be queues to get a table..

Fluid: mmmm pizza

by Dick33

It is a casual place but nice and the service was good and we had the same waiter twice he was very friendly too. I had a pizza the first time I ate here and a steak the second both meals had been really good. The night I had steak was New Years Eve and they gave us a sparkler at midnight we didn't light ours because we left a couple of minuets to midnight and I felt at 40 I was a little old for sparklers. Every thing was good

Marco polo: Mmmm Chinese

by Dick33

We ate here on New years eve 2006 when we got there we were greeted at the door I think because nobody else had gone in yet, Ian said it isn't a good sign when nobody else is eating but a few people came in after us.We had a meal for two we got chicken and sweetcorn soup, spring rolls, chicken wings, king prawns in blackbean sauce, noodles, fried rice among other meals I can't remember them all every thing we got was lovely and the staff treated us like royalty. All in all it was a very good meal and a very nice place to eat.We ate here again in 2007 and the service was fantastic again the food was great.A very good place to eat I wouldn't hesitate in going back here Spare ribs
