    Bay Street: Bay Street

    Bay Street

Bay Street is the name of the shopping and entertainment area of Paceville. The shopping complex has some nice stores in it, selling food, clothes, jewellery and of course the usual holiday triva. There's some bars too, and cafes on every level (it covers 4 or 5 levels). Part of the complex is "the market", an indoor bar/cafe area surrounded by shops selling craft goods and the like. We enjoyed looking around this area.

    Paceville: Paceville

by steventilly Updated Sep 13, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Paceville

Paceville (pronounced patchy-vill) is Malta's biggest nightlife area. Within this small quarter by St Georges bay just past St. Julian's is a huge array of clubs, discos, bars and restaurants, together with a multiplex cinema, 10 pin bowling complex, nice shopping centre and some of the finest hotels on Malta.
Many people gave us bad reports of Paceville, mainly concerning it being dirty, foul, full of drunken youths and so on. We found nothing like that. Most people there were teenagers or young 20's, but there are also families and older people, and everyone just seemed to be having a good time. There was no unruly behaviour that we get in English town centres, or like that associated with other Med resorts like Faliraki (though we liked it there too!).
Having "discovered" Paceville we went there almost every night, and had one of the finest meals we've ever had there.

    Promenade Kiosks: Promenade Kiosks

by steventilly Updated Sep 13, 2004

    Kiosk, St. Julian's

There are loads of kiosks along the seafront, not just at Sliema/St Julian's but anywhere that there is a seafront, and in many town squares too. Almost all sell hot & cold drinks, soft & alcoholic, hot & cold snack, and some do more substantial meals. Most are very good and are a really nice, informal place to stop for a drink and a snack while out for a stroll.

    Ballutta Square: Ballutta Square

by steventilly Updated Sep 13, 2004
    Ballutta Square

We loved Ballutta square, by day and by night. It's quite a gathering point for locals though tourists mingle too. There's a couple of bars & restaurants set into the bottom of the Ballutta Building down one side of the square, but for us the action centres around the kiosk on the opposite side of the square. Drinks (hot, cold, soft or alcoholic) and a variety of hot and cold snacks can be bought at very reasonable prices (this is true of many kisoks along the Sliema seafront).

    Bedouin Bar !

Bedouin is an open air bar at the Westin Dragonara Hotel just at the side of the Casino. The atmosphere is really nice as it is decorated with cushions and rugs where one can relax while having a drink. The place is all dark with dim lighting. Since the place is surounded by the sea the affect of the lights on the water makes a really nice affect.

Dress Code: Casual/Neat if you want but people come with jeans and a t-shirt !

    by Elly01 Written Aug 19, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Ryans is a very popular pub situated in Spinola Bay, St.Julians (just off the bay) If you are interested in watching football and if you love beer this is the place to be! You can also eat fish and chips, spare ribs, burgers, chicken nuggets and they make really good small pizzas. Inside it is all air-conditioned but you can sit outside if you wish. At times there are even live bands especially on Fridays and Saturdays! Ryans is also open Sunday afternoon for those who wish to have beer in the afternoon !

Dress Code: No dress requirements but everyone is always very casual and relaxed. In Summer afternoons it is always very hot so I recommend very light clothing !
