If you come here to eat out or party out, you should check the bus timetables. The nightbuses go only at friday and saturday at winter. I think they might go more often at summer, but see the info from the ATP- web page. The taxis are quite expensive, even if many other things aren´t at Malta.

Taxis are very expensive. I'm told €20 for the 20 minutes trip from the airport to St Julians.
I'm also told that if, on arrival, you stand in the public bus queue the taxi drivers will come and offer to take you for €15!
I paid €21 for a "taxi" my hotel arranged for me to head back to the airport. Didn't mind, as I hadn't paid anything on arrival (long story).
The alternative is to take the public bus - €0.47 x 2. You'd take one into Valletta and then another one out to St Julians. Then walk to the hotel. could be a bit sweaty in summer!

Public buses are cheap and plentiful. It costs €0.47 to get to Valletta, and takes about 15 minutes.
Many of the buses are vintage!
Many are modern.
Local radio (playing rap, hiphop...) is often on the PA system as you bounce along. Fun!
Get your ticket from the driver. They give change, but not sure if they welcome large notes. Keep it easy for them and have a coin ready.
All the bus routes "hub" around the City Gate terminus in Valletta.
Try it - cheap, fun & easy!

I got to Malta with Ryanair non-stop from Edinburgh. Flight time posted as 4 hours, but in reality about 3hours 40 minutes.
I've used Ryanair before for short flights, and worried a bit about a longer one - lack of service, tightly packed seating, no seat allocations etc. However, all went well. Left on time and arrive early. The plane was only 70% full so I had a row to myself. No drunks. A few screaming kids, but nothing intrusive.
I had a slight wait for my bag on arrival, but Edinburgh is always much worse, so can't really complain.
About £275 return, but much cheaper and faster than Air Malta via Heathrow.

Bus no. 645 leaves every half hour from Sliema via St. Julian's to Mellieha. Find out about the timetables if you're planning a night out in St. Julians while staying in Mellieha as the buses stop running quite early in the evening!

You can easily get to St Julians and Paceville - the nightlife area, by bus (from Sliema) no. 66 or no. 70. There are also buses from Valletta. One way ticket is 25 cents of Maltese pound = 0.6 cents of euro.
To go around you can walk or you can take a cab which will take you 4-7 pounds for a short drive (10-20 euros).

Wembley Taxi Service is situated just opposite Portomaso and the grounds of the Palace of Grand Master Spinola. You can use their services 24 hours however at times especially on weekends and when there are importaat events in Malta for example on Christmas eve or New Year's eve its hard to find a taxi sevrice so be careful ! If you catch a taxi from the airport to St.Julians you will have to pay roughly Lm (Maltese Liri) 8.00.

If you are staying in Saint Julians or Paceville the best way to get to Valletta and Sliema is by bus; number 62. It is really cheap; 20-40 cents. It gets really hot and sweaty though, and the bus is always packed! Make sure to have the exact amount of money (no bills!) as the bus driver have no or little change to give away.
