I don't think we experienced this problem, but I've heard lots of stories about how some Maltese restaurant owners/car rentals..etc try to take advantage of tourists by charging higher fees, different menus with higher prices at restaurants..etc. Some take advantage of the fact that they know tourists have money and they don't know any better and are fooled. I doubt that this is a common problem, but it's clear that it happens! Be aware, ask for receipts, do your research so you know what to expect (prices, offers, etc) I think it's awfully sad as tourism is Maltas primary income!

Beware recently in Malta speed cameras have been installed around the island however there are always signs around showing the speed limit in that area. For example coming out of the tunnels especially on the bridges on both sides the speed limit is 45km and it is very important not to go over the speed limit or over take in the tunnels and on the bridge !
