In Malta there are many fields of cacti and from the fruit they make a local liquer which is sweet but very tasty. Liquer About 5-6 Maltese pounds a bottle.
In every town you wll find the roadside fruit and veg. stand. Much cheaper than trying to find a supermmarket. Fruit and vegetables. Cheaper than a supermarket.
A visit to a bakery is a must. Pistazzi and other baked goods. Less than 1 Maltese pound.
