At several of the beaches on the island there are some 'companies' that offer to bring you and some of your friends, by boat, to one of the beautiful blue grottos that can be found some places around Malta. This costs around 10$(US dollars) per person, maybe a little bit expensive, but absolutely worth it!!
We were a group of 10 people who got to enjoy the exciting speedboat ride from the beach, along the coast and to one of the well-hidden grottos.
The grotto that we went to was absolutely gorgeous!! The water was bright blue, it was breath-taking!
We got to swim around for a little while, before we were 'shipped' back..

Sliema promontory offers on one side stunning views across to Valletta and on the other side, open sea views.
The promenade, which runs for several kilometres is ideal for walker and joggers. There are plenty of seats, coffee shops, restaurants and bars along the promenade so the seafront is a very sociable meeting place.

Sliema along with St Julians resort is Malta's main coastal resort towns and a heartland for shopping, entertainment and café life.
Sliem ,meaning `peace', was once a fishing town on the peninsula across Grand Harbour from Valletta.
The area developed rapidly in the last twenty years as a summer resort. Our captain confesed that ie his father which was dead for 22 years wouldnt recognize anything from this...

Fernandes II is a beautiful wooden boat with two masted gaft rigged Turkish Gullet, quite a large forward deck and a saloon.
We had an amazing trip from The Sliema Marina and cruising North westwards towards Gozo and afterwards Comino.
The captain, his wife and the whole crew were lovely.
The icing on thye cake was the music during our awesome trip, carefully selected for each moment iof the day.
We started with Enya, listened to some Australian birds, by 11 am while fully sailing Vanghelis, Spanish naughty music for the lunch, feeling blue songs after the lunch and so on...brilliant)

The Lazarett Hospital is situated on Manoel Island in Sliema. Manoel Island is an island adjoined to Sliema and Gzira with a bridge. Once, this was a secluded hospital and only people with diseases like leprsy etc. would be sent here.
Today the Lazarett mysteriously still stands there ! If you take a Captain Morgan cruise once can get a clear view of it.

Go for a walk up to Ta'Xbiex from sliema all the way up to Ta'Xbiex. There is a very pleasant walk especially if it is by night and it is a hot summer night. This can be very relaxing and will freshen you up ! Believe me the Summer nights can become really hot and sweaty at times unbearable so the best thing is to walk alongside the sea as it tends to be fresher there !
Beware in Malta especially close to the sea there always loads of cockroaches those of you who are afraid or have a phobia of them ! Infact at night I try to avoid certain places where I know loads of cockroaches tend to be. You find loads on seaside quays or in harbours for example in Spinola Bay at night there will be loads there ! Avoid Spinola Bay at night in Summer !

A chapel and some of the buildings on Manoel Island were destroyed by air attacks in the 1940's and today Fort Manoel no longer plays a military role. It serves a more peaceful purpose as the home of the Royal Malta Yacht Club where luxurious sailing boats and yachts lie beneath the elegant mansions at Ta' Xbiex Wharf. Repairs can also be accomodated here in the boat yard.

From the Sliema Strand - the name given to the promenade area - the classical view across the harbour to Valletta can be enjoyed with the dome and spire of the churches there. This is beautifully lit up at night too along with the defence walls and fortifications.

We had a good vantage point from the hotel rooftop - just behind the main road in a maze of steets is a church in Sliema - the Church Of The Sacred Heart. The rooftop was a good place to get our bearings too as we used the backstreets as a shortcut to St Julians a few times.
