Strollers on the bus

by trc777

The buses are good, but the state of routes, number of stops and the fact that almost all lines meet in Valletta causes that it is a bit time consuming, especially if your points A and B are on the opposite sides of the island. Beside that, bear in mind that the buses are not the style you can find in other european cities. They have only one door and a narrow place between the seats so if you want to do it with stroller, forget about anything else than very lightweight stroller you can fold - and ideally place on the shelf above the seats. Otherwise there should be no problem, maltese people are very kind and friendly.

Gozo Ferries

by grantica

This ferry line is runing between Malta (Cirkewwa) and Gozo (Mgarr) every 45 minutes (between 7:30-23:30) and every hour during the night. On the airport are direct shuttles to Gozo, so don't worry about it. The fare from Cirkewwa-Mgarr is EUR 4.65 for a return ticket/person.

Jump on the bus

by grantica

The buses on Malta are fun, you get in touch with the locals and you can enjoy some areas that otherwise you probably wouldn't see. They have buses that are from 50's up to the 90's. The drivers decorate them selfs with religious items, photos of their families, favorite football players etc. They cover every corner of the island. Be careful with the routes that only operate in the summertime and when the last bus is leaving. Also some times some routs get very crowded therefor you should not be angry about it.All the routs start from the bus terminal, you should go here to get at least the bus routs so you can easily plan your visits at most of the sights

To Gozo by Ferry from Malta

by mazzap

Taking a trip across the water to Gozo from Malta is relatively easy. It's a great way to spend a day exploring this nearby island whcih I found surprisingly different to Malta. It is less built up and the scenery is more rugged. There are 2 ferry terminals on Malta but the easiest (as it is the nearest) is from the very northern most point of Malta called Cirkewwa. There are frequent crossings but you may have to queue at busy times. Even if you don't get on the first boat, don't worry as there will be another along very soon! Loading is quick and efficient and the pleasant journey takes around half an hour. There are all the necessary facilities on-board too. The fare is very reasonable even if you take a car. We paid under 26 Euro for 3 passengers plus a car for a day return. You will need your own transport to make the most of discovering Gozo even though it is a small island....

Luqa airport

by Dick33

This tip is for smokers I am not a smoker but Ian is on our last trip to Malta we got delayed in Manchester airport for 4 hours so when we should have been in our hotel we still were waiting in England Ian had waited 6 hours in the airport then had over 3 hours on a flight then we had to get out of Luqa befor he had a fag.Coming back was so much better thanks to the lovely thoughtful people at Luqa they still have a smoking area outside on a balcony that made the trip home so much better. Why can't British airports be this accommodating?

Hotel Santana

by ROCKARIA

Hotel Santana is a good 4 star Hotel in Bugibba.I do not see any problems re strollers in buses and if the wheelchair can be folded and not too bulky the bus will accept it.Pavements are generally in good shape but in villages can filled with potholes etc.May is a good time and the nice weather starts about this time.September can be rather hot..enjoy

Take a bus from Sliema to Vallatta

by ROCKARIA

The journey from Sliema to Valletta depends mostly what time this is taken. If its rush hour time expect a full 20 - 30 mins.Normal traffic would not take more than 15 mins.A taxi from Sliema to Valletta main entrance will set you off to about €18.Valletta streets was designed in a grid form ( sort of manhattan ) and needs more than a full day to see the many historical attractions...Enjoy

Club class

by Dick33

If you can, go club class, it was fantastic the food is great (I never thought I would write that about airline food) and we had our bags first and we borded seperatly so no pushing and shoving all in all no stress transport.Well worth that little extra.Oh and I got my moneys worth out of the free drinks and chocolate muffins even at 4 in the morning I hit the brandys big time.

Open Top Bus Tour

by iwys

The open top bus tours run by Malta Sightseeing are a good way to get an introductory overview of Malta, but they are a little expensive and you can visit all the destinations much more cheaply using local buses. The buses depart from Sliema ferry terminal. There are two routes: the South Route and the North Route, with more than 20 stops on each route. The buses run hourly and you can hop off one and catch the next one using the same ticket. An adult ticket for either route costs €13.

Maltese buses

by iwys

Maltese buses are cheap and go to every corner of the island, but many of them are old and have very little leg room. Personally, I think they are a good, economical way to see all of Malta and a nice way to meet local people. For old car and bus enthusiasts, there is a variety of 1950s and 60s Leyland and Bedford buses to spot. For short journeys, like from Sliema to Valletta, fares are €0.47 one way; for longer trips, like from Sliema or Valletta to Mdina, the fare is €1.16. You buy your ticket from the driver. Don't screw it up or throw it away as inspectors regularly board buses to check tickets.
