    The national airline of Malta is Air Malta - the airline operates services to 36 destinations in Europe and North Africa. The airline's hub and base is at Malta International Airport, Malta. Between 2002 and 2007, Air Malta embarked upon a fleet replacement programme, opting to change all aircraft to Airbus A319s and A320s.

    This is the international airport of Malta, which is located 6 km far away from Valletta. There are nice shops inside it, when you get out of it you feel it is hot enough (especially if it is summer!)...

    The Valetta bus terminal is an ever busy roundabout around the Triton Fountain exclusive to the busses in front of the Valetta City Gate.

    There are 66 different bus routes going from here. You better get yourself a free copy of the ATP Main Bus Routes for free at one of the four information Offices at the outer edges.

    Even though catching a bus in Malta is an experience it self, nothing can beat travelling to Valletta by ordinary ferry that leaves every half hour from Sliema Ferries, at the end of the Strand. The service is quick (10 minutes or so) and cheap (0,35 Lm). Also, you have a good view over both Valletta and Sliema from the water (in case you can't afford those expensive harbour cruises).
    The only drawback is that the last ferry from Valletta only returns at 6 PM.

    This in the photo is the main bus terminus, which is in Valletta. From here you can catch a bus to all parts of the island. They are not expensive and very efficient as well. You can also buy One-Day, Five-Day or Seven-Day Special Tickets.

    We took the ferry from Sliema to Valletta. We could have stayed on the bus and gotten to Valletta that way, but we wanted to arrive by water, especially as the views of Valletta as you approach this way are great, and it's a lot, lot cooler than the bus!
    Fares were 75c each way.

    It's quite easy to get to Valletta by bus. Almost every bus on the Island ends up at Valletta at the end of its route. Bus fares are quite cheap and the services quite regular and efficient (from what we saw, and we used the busses 3 or 4 times each day).
    Valletta bus station needs to be seen anyway. It's a mad affair of concentric circles of bus lanes, the busses all stood one behind another, unable to go anywhere until the one in front leaves. Flare ups between drivers are quite commonplace as one wants to leave and the other is dawdling along.
    The busses are timed to leave dead on their departure time, so don't be surprised if the doors are closed on you just as you are about to board. If the busses waited till every last passenger was on, every bus in the terminus would be 1/2 hour late! Don't worry, you'll be first in the queue for the next bus.
