There is so much to see in the small island of Malta - from cities to scenery - that it is easy to overlook what might be thought of as rather 'ordinary' towns. Żejtun is one of a number of towns which, while they could not claim to rival Valletta or Mdina, have an atmosphere all their own and are great places to just wander. Żejtun is dominated by its late 17th century parish church of St. Catherine and has plenty of attractive houses (and balconies), narrow roads and alleys. On the south-east outskirts of the town is one of Malta's oldest churches, St. Gregory's, originally built in 1436 and added to by the Knights of Malta. The result is an unusual solid and almost military piece of architecture, quite unlike the parish church. Even if you are not driving, the bus network which radiates from Valletta will get you anywhere - and a bus journey in Malta is always a worthwhile experience! So why not try Żejtun?

The Art of Feeling Good

3 pm. Sun is hot, hotter than a snake's arm-pit. It is still a bad time to be out in the heat and the old cliché of "Only Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun" extends right up to 3...
