Camping in Moldova

by flemmingwillum

As many other travelers has said, Moldova is already pretty much off the beaten path. With only 7000 tourists per year and thereby the fifth least visited country in the world, you will barely meet other tourists. When going off the beathen path in Moldova, you might have some problems with finding hotels or other accomodation, and except from near Tsipova an official camping area does not exist. Therefore, I have searched for information about whether is it legal and safe to camp in Moldova, but couldn't actually find anything about this. Now I am sharing from own expierience. Moldova is an unspoiled country, with a unique peaceful atmosphere. It is legal to camp anywhere in Moldova, and if you a just going a bit into the woods or onto a less used road, it will be no problem finding a safe and beautiful place to put up your tent. I camped for two nights, and it was a pleasure.

Purcari- Winery

by GlobeTrottin

There is some decent Moldovan wine. Purcari offers a Pinot Noir, a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Cahor. The wines are not bad- but the winery expeirence a different story. If you want to stop by and pick up a few bottles - why not?But our lunch was overly-priced and mediocre.Even though we visited during the off-season, and were the only tourists in sight, we didn't feel particularly welcomed. One person in our group purchased quite a bit of wine, and still received no warmth or customer service. Also- they didn't provide her with an option for wine-tasting nor did we get a tour! Oh well!I can state, however, that the grounds were immaculately maintained. The decor tasteful and the dining area very grand. There's even a small gift shop.

Get your fortune read!

by GCoop

Go to Maximovca, 15km outside Chisniau. Ask ANY villager in the town to "Baba Maria's" house...they WILL know the way. Maria is older than dirt and a world famous fortune teller!Note: Bring someone who speaks either Romanian or Russian, as Maria does not speak English!

Old Orhei

by ZiOOlek

The archeological complex Old Orhei is situated in the valley of a right tributary of Dniestr – Raut River, between the villages Trebujeni and Butuceni, district of Orhei, 60 km North East from Chisinau. The name of the archeological reservation, and respectively, of the museum complex, derives from the name of historical settlement, the medieval city Orhei, existing on these lands since the XV-XVI centuries. The name evolved to Old Orhei after the settlement was left and a new city was founded, having nowadays the same name. The museum complex Old Orhei is a system of historical monuments and natural landscapes.

Villages

It just great to see some Moldovian villages. They are almost all in blue colour! Moreover, there are lots of street chapels and wells, both in the same colour.:) I have visited Ivancea and Trebujeni.

Just Moldova

by ZiOOlek

In 2004 26 thousand non - Moldavian citizens came to Moldova. It is estimated that about half of them were tourists. The number of tourists visiting the country has increased with 10,6% compared to 2003 and 29,2 % compared to 2002. The greatest number of people visiting Moldova comes from USA, Romania, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey. In comparition, in 2005 only one city in Poland - Krakow - attracted about 7 million tourists! The statistics shows clearly that Moldova - as a whole country - is totally of the beaten path... Just ideal for someone who love peace and quiet.:)

by Lion_Beat

Another beautiful place in the north of the country in Transnistria. The beauty of this places cannot be descibed in words, you should come and see it for yourself!Vineyards on the rocky hills of the Nistru produce one the finest and greatest wines. Being cultivated on this rocky hills and near the NIstru river with more sun the wine from here is just fine! Camenca

by Lion_Beat

Visit Camenca with it's hills like small mountains with people like nowhere else in Moldova, people that keep old traditions and where not so long time ago (about 30 years ago) you could meet people in the street in national costumes. In any museum you will find national costumes, carpets and other things from Camenca. The Nistru River! The secular vineyards on the hills!...just one tiny problem! It's in Transnistria - the region which right now is under Russian Occupation, and if you are foreigner it will be quite hard to get there. Hope soon (don't know when) the criminals from Transnistria will be locked up and you will have the opportunity to visit this pitoresque lands!
