Symposium: If you had one meal....

by GlobeTrottin

Good all-around restaurant. The ambiance is quite pleasant. A good wine list. And food ranging from Seafood to Italian.Service and hospitality is lovely.By Moldovan standards- pricey, but an average American-priced meal. They do have a couple of special local dishes: the chicken paprika and a polenta type dish with sheep's cheese: mamaliga.Mamaliga- it's not for everyone! The cheese is rather pungent!

Vegetable market: in Chisinau

by josephescu

The vegetable market in Chisinau keeps a flavour lost throughout Europe – actual old farmers and peasants sell their crops 110% eco-quality, younger ones even “advertise” their merchandise by shouting various funny catchphrases, a place crowded with people moving all directions and carrying everything you can imagine. Local bakeries, donuts and sweets, excellent pickles and delicious fruits, this is a place to take your lunch while observing people.

La Taifas: Don't miss it

by josephescu

Crème de la crème of restaurants in Chisinau located just opposite the Romanian embassy. Wide variety of Moldavian cuisine, expect to pay around 10 EUR for a full meal including desert. And is so delicious that you can be sorry for you have only one stomach. If you have the budget, opt for a bottled wine instead of the house one. Don’t miss the home made noodles and the roasted duck filled with plums. In fact, don’t miss anything, try as much as you can.

Buddha Bar: good for breakfast

by josephescu

A fancy fusion style cafe rather expensive as per Chisinau standards, Buddha Bar opens early enough for breakfast. Plenty of noisy nouveau riche during the night, we were the only ones at breakfast. Try the Russian salad.

Soroca: Teashop

by josephescu

The tea shop near the central park is not only for tea-lovers, but for coffee drinkers too, as this seemed the only place where one can have a morning coffee. If you're coffee dependant, ask for as strong as possible, and you'll get it 20% espresso-like. The tea shop opens 8,30 a.m. event on Sundays.

Soroca: Restaurant Paradis

by josephescu

Located in Sororca, on the main road leading towards the fortress, the restaurant does not look appealing from the outside, and I prefer not mentioning anything about the inside decorations. However, the food is delicious – we tried what the waiter recommended, and be sure you don’t miss the soup. Less than 3 euros for the full menu, Turkish coffee included.

General tip on restaurants: General tip on restaurants

by ZiOOlek

There are, especially in Chisinau, some really nice restaurants. Unfortunatelly, not many people how work at restaurants speak English. More common is having menu in English, but still only in some, upper class restaurants. Bills are usually written with a pen. Even if a waiter can speak English he/she will bring your bill in Russian. And if you know no Russian you cannot read it.:) I'd recommend to remember all prices from menu to be sure that the bill is well counted. If you are satysfied wit service you may give about 10% tip.

Beer House: Great local beer

by flynboxes

I enjoyed my meal here. This place probably caters more towards Westerners but they have good music playing at the bar. The staff was friendly and the menu was in English. I had the rabbit and couple of dark beers that they brew on site since this is also a microbrewery.

I did not find any restaurant...

by lotharlerch

I did not find any restaurant which I could recommend to anybody. The situation is about comparable to Ukraine in 1996. But I think - after having seen what all can be found on the markets - the people prepare excellent food at home. A mix of Ukrainian and Romanian influences should be really delicious - but I could not find it in any restaurant.Moldova is a country of wine. The local beer still has the former Soviet taste (that was one of the very few of the innumerable attempts of the Soviets to copy the US which was perfectly successful) nothing to compare with the really nice stuff you find now everywhere in Ukraine. Imported beer is relatively expensive.

La Taifas: great traditional food in a traditional atmosphere

by lenoreva

As we entered, we were given a strong alcoholic drink as a welcome and were told that it is a tradition. The decor is quite inviting and feels authentically homey. The staff was friendly. Everything we ate was very tasty. The menu is a la carte, which means you can put your own meal together, and the prices are quite reasonable so you can do some experimentation. I had potato and vegetable dishes while Daniel had chicken.
