Transnistria - or as some Russian nationalists and all Soviet hardliners use to call it 'Pridniestrovye' - is definitely off the beaten path as a whole and their government does its best to keep it in this situation.
It's not really off the beaten path, but never mind. When you're in Tiraspol you just can't miss the monuments of Lenin and Suvorov. Oh, and there is a WWII tank, like in every Russian town.
