PALACE OF MONACO

by Helga67

The guardian of a centuries-old tradition, this uniquely located Palace was built on the site of a fortress by the Genoese in 1215. A visit takes one on a journey through history from the time of the Guelfes and the Gibelins to the Napoleonic period. The outstanding features of the Palace that can be admired include: the Italian-style gallery , the Louis XV Salon, the Mazarin Salon, the Throne Room, the Palatine Chapel, the Sainte-Marie Tower and the Main Courtyard.

by handsoum

In Monte-Carlo, you can smell money and luxury everywhere, from the Cosmopolitan Billionaires' yachts in the main harbour, to the esplanade of the main Casino, surrounded by the majestic Cafe de Paris and Hotel de Paris. Monte-Carlo is really small, so you might think there isn't all that much to it. But if you know where to go, you will have a fantastic holliday. Also, you should see some more of the Riviera, such as Nice, Cannes, Juan-les-Pins or Eze-Village. Being in Monaco, you feel apart from the World. There is no street criminality, no taxes, and it is probably the most elegant city in the World. All is high-class, limousines and sports cars, extravagant jewelry, five star hotels and gourmet dining. You might go to see how the jet-set live or, if you have a comfortable bank account in Switzerland, enjoy the luxury yourself. If you would like some tips on the best luxury places on...

make the adventure of finding the Royal Palace area and making the hike up The Rock to see it. Walking around all the little old streets on The Rock is something that still had the appeal the second time I went there.

by James63

At 1.95 square miles, the Principality of Monaco is the second smallest country on the planet. (Only Vatican City is smaller.) In that little area, you'll find lots of money, overbuilt but nonetheless gorgeous elegance, and a bizzarely large number of pizza parlors. The temptation, therefore, is to write off Monaco as an overrated tourist haunt for the very well to do, but that would be a mistake. The dirty little secret about little Monaco is that it actually has a fair amount of culture and a bit of Old World charm. Monaco is divided into four unequal sized administrative quarters. Monte Carlo, the largest and most famous, is the site of the Hotel de'Paris and the casino, as well as the o.k. beach, and a rather nice Catholic church. Fontveille is an industrial area with the heliport, train station, and otherwise not much to see other than perhaps touring the Monaco beer brewery. La...

Monaco consists of the old town of Monaco-Ville around the palace on the high promontory, with suburb Fontvielle to the west. La Condamine is the old port quarter on the other side of the rock. Monte Carlo comes next and Lavrotto, the bathing resort with artificial beaches reaches the eastern border.

Go on a boat trip from the harbour to get a good view from the sea of the principality. The boat we went on had a trasparent underside where you could view the sealife in the clear waters. The special ice creams - delicious. Check out their ice cream menus. Costly, but worth it.
