When we visited (July 2004) there was a huge playground by the marina with varied sorts of activities for children.

It worked as a temporary fair/playground with different attractions for several ages, and all of them seemed to be having a great time there.

This playground was set by the pool in front of the marina, another option to relax and enjoy your stay in Monaco.

  • I went running a couple of times early in the morning whilst in Monetcarlo.

I found one problem, there are hardly any public toilets.

There are some down near the port towards the hill that goes up to the casino but thats it...so be warned.

Mild in winter (average in January and February : 8C) and warm without excess in summer (average in July and August : 25C).

The average temperature for the year is 16C and the Principality enjoys an exceptional amount of sun.

The surface temperature of the water along the Côte d'Azur differs depending on the amount of sunshine it receives. In winter it can be from 16C and in summer to 22C. If your are diving however, the temperature is a constant 13C from below 2000 metres down to 4000 metres. Toplessness on most beaches is accepted in the south of France but be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen.

  • Monaco values its well heeled and slightly conservative image. Dress in the expensive restaurants is coat and tie without exception. Men must wear shirts everywhere except in the beach and pool areas, and dirty looks will greet the church goer who shows up in shorts. Women can go topless at the beach or pools, however. Also, littering can get you not only fined, but arrested.

History: The history of Monaco is inseparable from that of the House of Grimaldi. Originally of Genoese extraction, the Grimaldis rose to prominence during the 12th century, when one member of the family became ambassador both to the court of the German Emperor Frederick II (Barbarossa) and to that of his Byzantine counterpart, Manuel Commenus. In the late 13th century, however, with the Holy Roman Empire riven with internal strife, the Grimaldi family was forced to take refuge in Provence. It was François Grimaldi who led a group of partisans into the fortress of Monaco in 1297, which has been ruled by the family ever since, the Grimaldis preserving their independence through a mixture of good luck and cunning diplomacy
