With the exception of the British monarchy, I'm guessing that the Grimaldi family is the best known royal family of Europe. From the beautiful Princess Grace Kelly who left Hollywood to marry her Prince and died in a tragic car accident, to the wild child Princess Stephanie to Prince Rainier's heir Prince Albert. As we were walking around Monaco, every time we saw a frame in a shop inside the frame was a wedding photo of Prince Albert and his wife from their July 2011 wedding.
You can read more about the history of the Grimaldi family and the Palace in Monaco on the attached website. You can visit the Palace from June-October.

We were in France at the same time that Monaco was having their Grand Prix weekend but as I don't particularly enjoy car racing, coupled with crowds, I figured it was best avoided. Plus I imagine that tickets are not only expensive but probably also sold out. If you are going at the end of May, make sure you check the dates for the Grand Prix.
It is kind of cool though for a car race, you could see them taking down the grandstands, the race actually is done through the main streets in Monaco, not on a racetrack.

We were feeling just a wee bit inadequate as we were tooling along the highway in our little Twingo and *whoosh* there goes a Maserati and *whoosh* was that a Lamborghini? *Whoosh* double Porsches. It got to be that we saw so many of these cars plus Bentleys and Rolls Royces, that when we saw a BMW or Mercedes we were thinking how pedestrian they were! And we laughed when we saw a Chevy, albeit it was a gearhead Chevy, parked amidst the showier cars at the casino.

You know, I was near Monaco in the port of Villefranche in France when the Grand Prix took place that summer. I didn't get to go see but I hear it's a unique experience. If you've been to any professional race in America like a NASCAR race or Daytona then you'll know that Monaco is home to the Monaco Grand Prix. This race is a part of the culture of this small country. It takes place every year and from what I've gathered, it's one of the most prestigious auto races on the planet. Be sure to check the website on when the next race will be. If you're in Monaco, you're pretty much walking the route that the Grand Prix goes on, don't miss the famous hairpin turn that the drivers must do!
