Fontvieille is the newest of the four traditional quarters (districts) in the principality of Monaco, and one of ten Wards for modern administrative purposes. It is a newly constructed area reclaimed from the Mediterranean Sea during the 1970s, and has a population of 3,300 in an area of 0.33 km².
The existence of Fontvieille, and its many public works projects, relates substantially to former Prince of Monaco, Prince Rainier III's reputation as the Builder Prince.
One of the big revenues in Monaco, the exposition hall or business center in Monaco/Monte Carlo and all this next to the Casino incomes, the yearly tourists, bankings and spending miljardairs. The Grimaldi Forum Monaco opened for expositions in September 2000. It is an engineering miracle, built on land reclaimed from the sea. Fontvieille, another district in Monaco was also reclaimed from the sea - "Monaco need space"
Most of hotel rooms ( 80 procent 4 and 5 stars ) are within walking distance near the forum and shuttles are rarely needed
In my case - Le Méridien is only a five minutes walk away
