    The Palace of Justice

by MikeAtSea Written May 10, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This small country has to have its own justice system. The heart of the Justice system is the Palace of Justice. The Prince’s judiciary powers give him complete authority in the courts and tribunals which are required to render justice in his name. The judicial system is independent of the executive branch. The Department of Judicial Services was created in 1918, separately from the administrative authority. This department is responsible for all judiciary personnel, magistrates, lawyers, police officers and ministers.

This is Monaco's version of a parliament. The 24 Council members serve a term of five years. They are chosen in a national election in which Monegasque citizens of legal age are eligible to vote. These men and women must have been citizens for a minimum of five years. The National Council assembles for two sessions a year, of which neither may exceed three months.

  • Shangri-La by the Sea

by dwjohnsonla Updated May 31, 2006

It is sometimes hard to believe such a spectacular hillside city by the sea exists. To arrive by train from the coast on either side, and see the magnificent city-state on the hillside start to emerge in the coastal haze, it almost seems like a mirage. Monaco, with gleaming towers rising above a yacht filled harbor amid coastal mountains, surely must be the lost Shangri-La. Like all Mediterranean outposts, it has a castle, this one inhabited by the long standing Grimaldi line which once included the late, beautiful and universally respected actress turned Princess Grace (Kelly). It's no wonder her last movie, 'To Catch a Thief,' filmed here in the French Riviera region, won the Best Cinematography Oscar; and what a tribute to her and her family that the film is now known as one of the quintessential Mother's Day movies. To arrive in this wonderful place Monte-Carlo, no matter who you are, you really feel as though you have arrived, even if for a short time, in the lap of luxury.

One thing that we do in all the places
that we visit, is take some time and just
wander around the side streets with no
    destination in mind.

We have found many nice little shops
and places to eat by doing so ....

Mary loves her chocolate, and while
in Monte Carlo, we found that they
also love their chocolate so much,
that they will coat anything with it.

Yes, we had to try most of what was
offered bcause we could not resist.
Excuse: We were on holiday, so the
calorie count didn't matter .. ha ha

    Check out the Drive!!

by huwhit Written Sep 12, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Monaco comes alive at night - partly due to a slight addiction with gambling that many of the tourists have!!!

If your not into playing the tables then you may be interested in checking out the "Fully Sick" motor vehicles that wait outside for their multi-million dollar owners to finish inside the Grand Casino.

Their are some pretty awesome cars to check out - to be honest I think they park them out there to get people to look at them!!
