Tourist train around Monte Carlo

by ZoeB

If you want to see the sights of Monte Carlo, in one go then take the tourist train which you can get from the old town area and it costs around 11 euros (£6/£7). It takes you around the old town, around the Marina and up by the casino and the popular districts, well worth the money to see it all in one go. I think the tour lasted around 45 mins,

the best way of getting to...

by nathasha

the best way of getting to Monaco from Nice is - by helicopter!! yes, you definitely get the best view from air!!! but if you are into speed you'd better choose a fast car, and drive the narrow coastal roads with tight curves to get there - the views are also picturesque, and the challenge of keeping on the road is more than thrilling!!!

How to reach Monaco ?

by Helga67

Monaco has rail, bus, and highway connections from other coastal cities. Trains arrive every 30 minutes from Cannes, Nice, Menton, and Antibes. There are no border formalities for anyone entering Monaco from mainland France. Buses arrive hourly from Nice. From Nice, motorists can continue east along N98 or N7.As Monaco is so small, the best way to go around is on your two feet.

Getting to Monaco is not...

Getting to Monaco is not difficult. Fly into Neice, France, and take the train, a cab, a bus or---a helicopter! Monaco is too small for a full blown airport, but it does have a heliport in its Fontveille quarter. THIS IS THE WAY TO GO! The James Bond-esque experience of taking a helicopter - a 10 minute ride as opposed to 30 to 45 minutes by land - is supplemented by the cab that is right there to get you when you arrive. Best of all, the helicopter taxi costs only slightly more than the cab. By the way, do not drive yourself into Monaco as there is almost no place to put your car when you arrive.Once in Monaco, kiss your car good-bye. Driving is a nightmare and parking is worse. Go by foot or taxi. Frankly, even a taxi is a waste unless your shopping bags have gotten too large.

This quick trip to Monaco was part of a bus tour, so I did not have to navigate my own way and can not therefore offer any advice! We also did not stay in Monaco - this was a day trip from our accomodation in Antibes, near Cannes. I imagine it would cost a pretty penny to stay in Monte Carlo - so that would depend on your travel style - it is certainly not mine!

By plane: the nearest airport is the Nice International airport which is 22 km away. There is a bus service running from the airport direct to Monaco.(journey time is 45 min, 85 FF one way)Train: all trains stop at Monaco /Monte Carlo Station (timetable: http://www.sncf.com)There is local buses runningbut the distances is really short so it is smart to bring good walking-shoes.

by steventilly

By plane you must fly to Nice and then transfer by train, bus or taxi. At Grand Prix time you can transfer by helicopter! By rail, there is a very good service along the coast, calling at all of the Cote D'Azur resorts as far as Menton and continuing on into Italy. If you're wealthy and have your own Yacht, well Monaco harbour is world famous. If you're lucky enough to get a berth (impossible at Grand Prix time) it would be a great way to visit Monaco.Just walk. Monaco is so small. There is a small 'tourist train' that goes around the streets and up into the old town, for those of you who are too unfit!

We went there by train, there's a railwaystation in the heart of Monaco. If you want to go there by car you can take a romantic road through the Alpes Maritimes. (Inconvinient: There are a lot of snakelike roads, which are are large but the driver has no time to look at the beautiful landscape)
