by Nathalie_B You decided to visit Holland and not sure about where to start or where to go next? Then this tip is for you. Madurodam is the place where you can see many tourist attractions in mini-size. It is a little city with airport, cathedrals, palaces, bridges, train stations all in 1:25 scale and look exactly like the originals. This place is especially great for children, they always enjoy spending time in Madurodam. So, all you have to do is to visit the Royal City The Hague in which Madurodam is located. John Fellows (Pete Allen Jazz Band UK) by Nathalie_B Every year, usually in the month of May, the city of Breda hosts International Jazz Festival. Bands from all over the world are coming to play on many podiums that are mostly placed in the city center. Most of the performances are free, unless you're interested in attending some special concerts. The 2007 festival is going to take place between 17 and 20 of May, DON'T MISS IT! Great experience and good music, you'll be able to listen to all the possible styles of jazz! Leave a Comment

by Nathalie_B Churches can be found in every city, or should I say on every corner? It is my favorite piece of architecture, and I visit them everywhere I go. Many different styles can be found here, sometimes you can see a church that is build in a few different styles, like this one on the picture from Maastricht. Leave a Comment

by Nathalie_B When you travel in the Netherlands, you can get the travel information is every city at the visitors information office called VVV. They're always happy to help. There's one suggestion I have, DON'T BUY ANY MAPS THERE! Usually they're more expensive, get them in bookstores or news stands. See more info HERE Leave a Comment

by tompt Our country is famous for its windmills. But there are only 1050 windmills left in our country. The windmill is synonymous with our struggle against the water. About half of our country is below sealevel and the water has to be milled into the sea in order to keep our feet dry. In the old days it was done with windmills. And there are still some windmills doing this job, for example the 4 windmills in Aarlanderveen. But most of the milling today is done by electric or diesel mills. In the picture an electric mill. It mills dry the Vierambachtpolder near Alphen a/d Rijn. It can move 190 cubic meters of water per minute. The water is lifted 5 meters by this mill. Leave a Comment

mailbox by tompt If you want to send a postcard to your loved ones at home, or just your VT friends, you have to buy postcards and stamps first. Sometimes shops sell stamps with the postcards, but not always the stamps for overseas mail. In that case you have to get them at a postoffice. And be warned! we dutch we want your money, so stamps are often sold in booklets only. For postcards or letters to addresses in Netherlands you need a 0.39 stamp (sold per 10), in europe stamps are 0.69 and outside europe it costs 0.85 Euro (sold per 5). You write your cards, put a stamp on it. Then you find a postbox. They are red and have two openings. The left one says:overige postcodes. It is for all mail outside the area. The right one has numbers. For instance: postcodes van 2200-2800. Adresses in the Netherlands will have 4 digits and two letters in the postal code (in front of the city). We have 2435WX. So our postal code is between 2200 and 2800 and goes in the right one in this example. But if you are that close, you can drop by and say hello !! You are welcome. Most postboxes are emptied at 17:00 on sunday through friday. Some, in very desolated places, when the mailmen delivers mail in the area. The color of the postboxes is slowly changing from red to orange, due to a new housestyle of the Post Office. Leave a Comment

My friend and I were shocked to find out that at 8pm on a Thursday night, we couldn't find a table anywhere! We must have walked into 4 or 5 restaurants, and finally found a table at 9:30pm, by which time we were starving and very grouchy (this was in April, I can only imagine what it must be like in July). Moral of the story: call the restaurant to make a dinner reservation the day before or in the morning. Leave a Comment

LEIDEN by eden_teuling Yes, this has to do with the Dutch City of LEIDEN, a fmous University City here in The Netherlands. THE PILGRIMS, refugees from religious intolerance in ENGLAND, emigrated to the tolerant HAVEN of THE NETHERLANDS in 1609..... After some 12 years in LEIDEN, HOLLAND, fearing the loss of their English traditions as their children were growing up DUTCH and with the threat of renewed war between the Dutch and the Spanish, the little congregation made the momentous decision to emigrate yet again in 1620..... In September of the year 1621, after a perilous sea voyage and severe first winter at Plymouth harbour at the mouth of the HUDSON RIVER (near the northern boundary of the Virginia colony), the PILGRIMS celebrated and gave THANKS, with a traditional English harvest feast. Today, the American THANKSGIVINGS DAY is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in November each year........

by Nathalie_B Holland is famous for it's nature beauty. And what I personally like is that in every city you can find at least one park. They're all different, but most of them worth a visit. Sonsbeek park in the center of Arnhem is a must. Leave a Comment
