Mobile cards

by abi_maha

for Indians I definitely recommend the Lyca mobile cards, I spent 10 euros to get talk time worth 15 E,have used it all of these 15 days and still have a lot of balance left! Inexpensive messaging! Almost unlimited!phone cards I recommend Matrix, 6E you get 350 minutes of talk time!! super kewl! You lose some money on interconnectivity, so use it for long conversations with family/swt hearts! :)

We speak also English

by kilat

Don't worry, almost everybody in Holland speaks English. We have to learn it at school. We also hear a lot of English, because a lot of programs on the television are spoken in English, and translated in Dutch text. So we can even watch television together.

Amsterdam

by traveldave

The city that was to become Amsterdam started out as a fishing village founded in the 1200s at the mouth of the Amstel River. A dam was constructed on the river between dikes to protect the settlement and nearby farmland from flooding, hence the name Amsterdam. Amsterdam was chartered as a city around 1300, and became a member of the Hanseatic League (a German trading association) in 1369. In the late sixteenth century, Spanish forces sacked Antwerp in Belgium, at the time the leading port and commercial center of northern Europe. Skilled refugees escaped to Amsterdam, bringing with them commercial skills and money. These refugees established business and trading concerns. This helped Amsterdam become the leading port and commercial center of northern Europe. The city also profited immensely from colonial trade generated by the Dutch East India Company, which was headquartered in...

Sea level (link to map)

by ATLC

A map of heights in The Netherlands shows how much of it is below sealevel.NAP means New Amsterdam Level which is the zero-line of above or under sea level. Every waterlevel is measured against it.The text above the map says:a great part of NL lies below sealevel. This not only implies high safety measures by means of dykes but also a complex dewatering system. Map of heights in The Netherlands.Note: the darker the colour on the map, the lower the land lies.

Brielle, my hometown

by ATLC

I believe my hometown deserves a general tip on my home country page. Brielle (also known as Den Briel) and the surrounding area Voorne and Europoort really represents much of what The Netherlands is about: history, architecture, modern industry, rural (protected) landscape, tourist attractions, Dutch way of living, good shopping. Well, Brielle of course. Come see my page. You can find it here.
