For performances, cabaret, dance, music and movies ''Theater De Kolk'' in Assen is the place to be. There are three halls and a theatre-cafe.
At the web-site of the theatre you can see what's going on and make your reservations.
Before Theater De Kolk there was allready a Concerthuis at the same place, built in 1851.
I can remember the Concerthuis very well. Here I was on stage for the first time in performances at schoolparties. And here I saw the musical '' Hair'' and many other performances.
And later, in 1978, we were reunited with my dad in the hall at the first floor, when he and the others were liberated after a hostage for a few days by Molucca young people of the RMS.
Dress Code: Casual is OK.
Theater Diana is the place for a night out in the citycentre. At saturdaynight it is a discotheque with opening hours from 10.30 pm till 5.00 am. The entrance is free. The music varies from dance music, R&B, mellow to top 40. There are also a lot of live-acts.
At other days of the week there can be performances, festivals, dance classic parties and other activities. For the agenda look at the web-site. Also you can hire the theater for your own parties up to 100 or 500 people.
In the period I lived in Assen, Diana and Apollo were the two cinemas in town.
Diana was a cinema from the 50s till the 90s. In 1997 Diana got its new function as part of the HoteldeJonge-complex.
At the place of Apollo the new townhall is built.
Discotheque Diana is probably the most nightlife spot in Assen. It's an ordinary club, not too big and not too small. Is usually quite crowded on saturdays.
Loads of trance anc r&b. Great if you are crazy about that music.
