In July 2007 a new restaurant opened its doors. It's a Caribbean restaurant where you can go for a drink, lunch or dinner. There is a variety in different types of tables, seats and chairs, all in bright colours. From the outside you don't have the slightest idea what to find inside, so we were very surprised to find this wonderful ambiance in the middle of the modern part of the citycentre.
We liked the Cuban music that is played, like the Buena Vista Social Club. They have the real Cuban Havana Club rum (the dark 7 years old) and cigars from Nicaragua. The bar is open till 2am. In the next future there will be live salsa music. For the kids there is a nice playing ground. It's also possible to have cooking lessons.
Favorite Dish: The soups and salads for lunch look delicious. For dinner I had shrimps Caribbean style. There are also good looking vegetarian dishes.
A pity, Mojito closed its doors in winter 2009-2010.
Now there is a tapas restaurant and club 'STRAQ'.

Please double check with all the other hotels in this aread before selecting this Hotel. Hotel looks cool, but the people are not.
I stayed in the hoted for a month paying 50 / 80 Euros per day. I didn't find time to search for other hotels in the area due to work.
At the reception, They give a warm welcome only when you check in. They don't try :(
If you staying in a hotel means you are new to the city, If you ask them something, they will give a brochure and ask us to find ourself. They say plainly
"NO" , "It's not Possible" , "It's not available", "I Don't Know"... If you are working in Hotel industry you should have common sense to help your customer. Customer is not testing your knowledge, He needs help. He doesn't understand you god damn language....
They don't even keep a kettle in the room to make Tea..
Some receptionists are very rude.... If you ask too m any questions , they stare at you like they are gonna burn you into ashes.. I am asking because .. i don't understand the local language.

In the centre of Emmen you can eat Chinese, Indonesian, Mexican, Italian, Greek, Caribbean and Tunisian. All the restaurants are within walking distance of each other.
There are also some restaurants-grand-cafes with a nice atmosphere. Our favourites are:
Groothuis, Stationstraat 75
Rue de la Gare, Stationsstraat 8

If you like to eat at the outskirts fo Emmen, you can go to the Golfparc Sandur south of the citycentre in the scenic new designed area of the golfpark. The Brasserie The Fairway with its nice terrace is not only for the golfplayers.
You can have just a cup of coffee, a lunch, a sandwich or a icecream at noon or a four course dinner in the evening. All is prepared with fresh products. There are maincourses with meat and fish or vegetarian meals as well.

We saw this lunchroom and just had to go in, for our neighbours own a lunchroom with just the same name. Fortunately it was a good guess lol because the food was good, the servants polite and friendly and above all, the toilets were clean.
Favorite Dish: I had the hamburger special and although served in quite different way than I am used to (perhaps something of the province of Drenthe ;-)) it tasted good.
My kid had the so called "broodje gezond", a sandwich with "healthy" stuff on it. Looked very nice when served and according to the kids it tasted great but perhaps they could try a fresh pineapple next time. :-D

I was in need of a sandwich or broodjes, so I found this little food shop. The coffee was good and the broodjes didn't touch my sides as I wolfed it down....It hit the spot..and the coffee washed it down a treat..
Favorite Dish: Beef American Style Broodjes

In summertime I like it to go to the towncentre and to sit at one of the many terraces at the Marktplein. One of my favourite cafés is the Brasserie. The terraces of the Brasserie, de Zwetser and Markant are almost one huge terrace.
At the opposite of these three cafés a former farmhouse, a national monument, is transformed in a restaurant 'De Kamer ' and a Tapas Bar ''Tapas Real'
The Markplein is the best place to be in town, according to an inquiry. And I agree.....

Under one roof you can have a wonderful world diner in three different restaurants.
You start in the Spanish tapas restaurant Venga Tenga with a welcome drink and tapas variadas.
The world main course is served in the french-style Patio restaurant.
At the end for the dessert and coffee you go to the African Brasserie Mombasa.
Favorite Dish: It's a surprise, what's been served, so just enjoy !
We had tapas variadas, filet de loup de mer farci avec une mousse de salmon or entrecote veau avec une compote de oignons and Cape brandy pudding with exotic fruits and ice.

At the northern edge of the centre of Emmen, not far from the Langgraf and the Nabershof, you can find the restaurant "De Eekenhof''.
This restaurant is in a former farmhouse.
The restaurant is in buffetstyle, so you can choose and mix what ever you like and how much you like for a fixed price.
All kind of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. Cold and hot dishes. And delicous desserts !
You have to make a reservation.
It's a nice place for familyparties too.
Favorite Dish: The varied choice in fish salads, the vegetable salads and the desserts.
