Do rent a bike! It's very common in The Netherlands and therefore also in Hoogeveen. It's a great way to drive around and will keep you very fit of course. Besides that, it's a very cheap way to see the surroundings.

Not only is the A28 the most important highway to get to Hoogeveen, but it's also one of the main roads to get around in the area.
Via the A28 there is a direct road to the A37, which will take you to the city of Emmen en even Germany. The exit ot the N48 is there for the city of Ommen.
Finally there are several extits which will bring you to the cities of Zwolle, Meppel and Assen and smaller (but interesting) villages of Dwingeloo, Pesse, Fluitenberg and Zuidwolde.
The A28 is a very important highway in The Netherlands. It goes all the way from the North (Julianaplein - city of Groningen) to the middle (Waterlinie - city of Utrecht) of our country. It's a bout 200 km long.
Getting to Hoogeveen isn't a difficult task. Just get on the A28 and you'll get the exit to the city.

Have you ever wondered where to park the car whenever you arrived in Hoogeveen? Well, here is the answer!
It's quite simple though. Just follw the signs "centrum", which will lead you to (of course) the centre of the city. At that point you won't be able to miss the so called "P-Route" signs. Just follow these.
They will take you in a circle around the city centre and point you out to parking spaces available. Park you car there and you're able to walk your way to the centre.
Tip: parking space "Pr. Mauritsplein" is free of charge!
