There's a sheep herd at Orvelte, that goes out during daytime in the neighbouring fields and at night returns to the pen. Unfortunately the pen was set on fire in 2008 by some vandals and must be rebuild.
The sheep are "Schoonebeeker heideschapen" (moor sheep from Schoonebeek). It decents from the German Bentheimer sheep. At present there are about 1300 animals of this breed.
The Smederij dates from 1837,
There are daily demonstrations by the local blacksmith.
This smithy takes care of the maintenance of the signs, handles and more of the iron works in the village.
Outside private orders are excepted.
The Dairy museum is housed in the former dairy factory you get an impression on how cheese and other dairy products were made in the past.

The Herbs garden at Orvelte is maintained by a community project, to help handicapped people by guiding them in special selected jobs they can handle.
The "Ambachtspeeltuin" (crafts playgarden) is special made for children to get them in touch with the old handcrafts.

This was a stately farm owned by a rich farmer. This is the living room, only for Sundays and important visitors!
Even if we grumble at the weekly chore of laundry today, it was even worse in the old days. And no handcream for afterwards either!
