    The Paardentram or horsedrawn tram is the local sightseeing means of transportation.

    You also can hire the tram for a daytrip with a group.

    The tram can accomodate wheelchairs.

    Lumps of peat were the tradional fuel for the furnaces.The wet lumps were stored in a special covered storage with open sides, so the wind could dry the lumps.

    These water reservoirs are several in the village of Orvelte. Because of all the wooden farms, it was necessary to have water at hand in case of fire.

    Usually you'll find giant clogs outside souvenir shops all nicely painted. I liked these simple bare ones.

    The work reminds me a bit of Jopie Huisman, a famous Dutch selftaught master of contemporary times. But this misses his finesse.

  • Playing Farmers Golf

    My friend trying out the club! I spoiled it by dribbling around like it were hockey. I don't play golf, you see ;-) An oversized tennis ball and a wooden shoe on a stick

  • Farmers Golf

    There's a new sport called Farmers golf. A farmers version of the golf sport. With big balls (more like big tennis balls) and a wooden clog on a stick serves as club. The game is simply played in the grass fields around a farm.

    Favorite thing: Actually, these remind me a bit of the carts in Romania. But of course The Netherlands was also an agricultural country long ago.
