Traditionally the Netherlands are renound for their maritime endeavours. Sailing is one of them. The "Zuider Zee" once was an inland sea, offering passage to the North Sea and the Baltic in the north from Amsterdam and a lot off smaller cities around it.In the old days the "Zuider Zee" offered the coastal places good fishing grounds and still more...more
Modern city planning includes also adding unusual objects giving structures an unusual attribute. Two stairs come into my mind in Almere’s city center. Due to lack of knowledge, I just call them “stairs to nowhere” and “masochists’ stairs”. The first mentioned are located directly at the forum. Under them, you have access to a parking garage. The...more
Examples of modern dutch city planning can be found all over the city center. One remarkable aspect is the mixing of business and living zones with the purpose of bringing life into the city center. Anyway, it does not matter if it’s an office or an appartment building. What’s interesting is an unusual design. One of the buildings I liked was a...more
When you have a walk through the modern part of Almere, you have just one impression: they must've been smoking something (they Dutch, after all ;-)). The city is build completely from the ground (or rather, from the sea) in the past few decades - and apparently, the architects were given a lots of freedom here. You will find the block of flats...more

Although the concept of this resaturant is nothing really special anymore, I really like it. Go to a buffet, choose from fresh ingredients and bring them to one of the cooks. He/she just wants to know which spices and sauce you would like with it and in a couple of minutes, you’ll have your own delicious wok dish. The wok buffet is supplemented by...more

The restaurant serves all kinds of food, from cactusleaves till snake. :o) But you can also get steaks, spareribs or fish. I think they have something nice for everyone. Special about the restaurant is that it is decorated in cowboy/indians style. You have to sit on benches made of cowsleather. The waitresses working there are all very kind.Make...more

The bus system in Almere is well developed and buses run frequently until midnight. It’s run by a private company called Connexxion under the name “Maxx Almere”. The (in)famous dutch strippenkaart is used on them too, so be aware of how many zones you are travelling through or ask the driver. There are special bus lanes all over the city so that...more
Almere is located on the Flevolijn, the route through Flevoland which connects Lelystad to Amsterdam. Connections to Amsterdam are very good with trains running at least twice an hour, even more during peak times. Not all trains go to/from Amsterdam Centraal, so that you may have to change at some Amsterdam station to reach your final destination....more
Like every larger dutch city, also Almere has its big Albert Heijn supermarket. This one is located underground, but offers the same variety of products you know from other large Albert Heijn markets. It’s a little more expensive than the german discounter chains Lidl and Aldi, but its part of the dutch culture. If you do self-catering, just have a...more

Unless you want to get caught in the most boring, dull and slow place (no, I will not call it a city !) stay out.
Almere has nothing. One blowboat (closed most of the time), a shopping center only a fool could have drawn, and a cinema from hell.
The best thing in Almere is the train to Amsterdam...
Unique Suggestions: If you find yourself unfortunate enough to stumble upon this heap of houses, leave. As soon as you can. Trains run from 4.50 in the morning (!) up untill 1:35 at night (See ? Even the train company helps you to get out almost 24 hours a day.)
Fun Alternatives: The best alternative is Amsterdam.
This lovely beach is located in the "Filmwijk".....its only small, but very nice especially for kids.
Different sports can be practiced up here such as tennis, squash, billiards also it is used for other things such as dancing. You can rent rooms and lots more. Its a multifunctional sports centre with 3 bars and lots of thngs to enjoy, such as watching people play inddor football.
Almere lies no longer with its back to Amsterdam and has got a central point in the north-wing of the Randstad. Its a knowledge centre with many highgraded office locations.Meanwhile the ICT sector from the 21rst century has been folowed up by new technologies, which bring along unprecedented speeds and ways of communication. On a concentrated way is...more

What about the business atmosphere in Almere? The business sector in Almere is many-sided, dynamic and international. Employment is growing by 9% annually. More than 4,000 jobs are created each year, which means Almere has the highest employment growth in the Netherlands. Half of this number is based on expansion of local businessesmore
