The little details that make up the "New Lands"

by Pavlik_NL

Look around sharply and find out little differences with the main land. The new polders are quite different from the old land and have there own tradition. A small example is what you find on top of the churchtowers. No, it's not the traditional rooster, but always something that has a connection with the sea. A boat, a fish or some legendary seagod.

Sparesome people thinking about the future

by Pavlik_NL

Not only because the location is ideal, but also because I am under the impression that Flevoland-people are just a little bit more thinking of the future then the average other Dutch. All around Flevoland you'll see windmill-turbines swinging their huge blades. The energyproduction of Flevoland (incl. the one gas-electricity-plant in lelystad) is perfectly in balance. As there is practically always wind in this low leveled province, more windmills are planned. Thus adding to a future rich province that can say to have more windmills then any other place in The Netherlands (-:

The Netherlands already have problems with overpopulation for quite some times. Already centuries ago several lakes North of Amsterdam were dried (poldered in). Long time ago in Groningen en Friesland people fought hard against the tides of the sea. Then at the top of North-Holland the Wieringermeer and then Flevoland was born. First it began with the Noord-Oost-polder and then followed the immens large Flevoland itself. Plans were there to also polder in the Markerwaard, but this has been prevented as environmentalists came with strong arguments to keep the IJsselmeer as it was. Only the dike from Lelystad to Enkhuizen (an impressive road straight through the water) reminds of these plans, that one day still can be carried out.At first all these activities...
