Sier, the disappeared village of Ameland
Somewhere just North-West of the island Ameland, the Northsea is playing tricks with us humans. At rough times quickly parts of the islands disappear into the waves, but the last decades the beaches grwo wider and wider, for several kilometers already. Suddenly one found things in the sand. Stone rings that went deep into the soil. They seemed to be ancient waterpits and ... that what was left from thee disappeared village "Sier" was slowly surfacing again. Still, when anyone offers you a very cheap place to stay in the village Sier on Ameland ... I'ld think twice before paying out front. (-:
Dangers of the "Wadden" sea
The "Wadden" sea is a sea that is dry at low tide and a true sea at high tide. At springtides the water comes up very fast, but normally it also is faster then you might expect. Now, there are many guided tours onto the "Wadden" and they are very interesting, but ... do not ever go alone or without proper guidance into the "Wadden". Few years ago again a few stupid tourist did and the drowned. Also good swimmers have to note this, the currents that are in the "Wadden" sea are terrible treagurous and can easily "spout" you far onto the North sea.
