In the 19th century the rich landowners joined the people who had nothing and decided to let the poor create a wood with ponds, walking paths and a hermitage.
Nowadays these woods have fully grown and every now and again we go there for a walk.
My parents used to take us there when we were kids and now I take my kids.
Too bad I did not pay too much attention to the stories my mother told us about her childhood time!

Address: The woods can t be missed!
Website: http://www2.pbf.nl/maps/opsterla.htm
Just in between Beetsterzwaag and Olterterp, standing in front of the estate Lauswolt, if you take the road I am standing on, you ll drive a beautiful road through the woods towards a place called Hemrik.
The other day they showed a roadsign on the television that is placed along this road: round shaped, green border and the digits 60 in the middle.
It is not an official sign for one is allowed to drive 80 here but the municipality decided the road is gorgeous, why not place a roadsign that fits in, like a painting.
The people of the municipality got a say in it as well.

Favorite thing: Like this one, on the road to Ureterp and Drachten. It is called 'Bethlehem' and the people that live here, have a row of buxes in the shape of a david star in their front garden.
The 'uileborden', literally translated that is 'owl signs' on the shed are a typical Frisian thing.
