The province of the watersport

The province Friesland (Fryslân) has a lot of lakes and canals. It's a nice area to make boattrips. In this province I went to a sailing school. Later we rented a few times a sailingship to make trips. Many years my parents had a motor cruiser in Friesland. I liked it to visit them for one or more days. One day at the water was very relaxing and felt like being there a week.In Friesland are the so-called skûtsjes, huge sailing boats, originally made for transportation. Nowadays these skûtsjes are transformed into boats fro making weekend or weektrips. There are also the spectacular annual skûtsjes-races.

The province of Friesland has, like the province of Groningen, several nice little churches. Most of the times they are hidden in trees and not always near a village. Like this one we saw in a neighbourhood called "Duurswoude".
"Talking" roof tiles

A good part of this province is country side. I just love the farmhouses with text showing in their roof, like this one we saw near the village of Balk.Using a dark roofing tile it says : Immer moed, which means as much as : always courageous. Some of the farms have a building year, others a name or a motto.
The village 'Goingarijp'

This the channel 'Lijkvaart', with several summer residences on the left side.You will find a really nice restaurant 'De Klokkestoel' (watch the restaurant tip!!!), a beach, a surfing beach (gravel), a tennis court and several playgrounds in the direct neighborhood. There are also two marinas, a sailing school, a boat renting agency and the village church with belfry.You come up to the next town with all shopping possibilities, boutiques, cafes, museums and a big adventure swimming-pool after 6 kilometer.

The landscape is very special - the weather conditions often cloudy and rainy - but ideal for sailing.Infrastructure is perfect - the harbours top .It is only 300 km's from Ghent/Belgium and wort while to spent a super sporty weekend.
