This is THE disco of Leeuwarden. It is really nice and they play all kinds of music, from rock and pop to dance and house. Thursday is the students night and is the best night to visit and meet people. You will not only meet locals from Leeuwarden and Friesland, but people from all over the country, since many people study here. Quite often on Friday nights special events are organised.
Dress Code: Dress nicely.

Oh yes, great place to go after De Dikke Van Dale on a Friday or Saturday. Go after 1am, for best times. Friday nights tend to have a better music policy downstairs, but then thats because I'm a techno junky! Saturdays are packed.
When you get to the door, don't just walk in, take a leaflet from the doorman, its your pay sheet, go straight to one of the cloakrooms and get rid of your jacket, then go party.
The stairs on the left go up to the R&B area, to the right is a bar area. Straight ahead is where most people go. First you come to the Trance/Techno Main dance area, great tunes usually. Theres bars to your left, downstairs and up, quite a good arena. If you go downstairs, and bear to your left, you get to the golden oldies or rather 70's/80's music area, always packed out, and a few more bars.
When you leave, go get your jacket, and they'll tally up your drinks and off you go, its a bit of a mad rush here, so just squeeze in!
Dress Code: No trainers/sneakers.

Thursday night - Student night. This is where most of them head.
You put your coat in for 2 euros, then get plastic tokens at the kiosk to buy your drinks. I thought it was very expensive. Each token costs 1.80 euros, and most of the drinks are costing 2 or 3 tokens each.
I went on aThursday, great music all night, and I left around about 4am!
A bit strange though], whereas half of the crowd are going mentel to the DJ, the other half just stand about staring, typical nightclub posse I suppose. Watch out for some of them though, if they don't think you go there much, they try it on, hell they're only young students who haven't really been around much, just ignore them, I usually stand up, nuff said! I'm there for the tunes!
Doesn't opem until well after 11pm, and sometimes not until after midnight!
Dress Code: Dunno, anything goes it seems!

This theater is an old church, that is why it has a lot of character. It has a wonderful atmosphere inside. When they have music going on that you like; go check it out! This theater is not only cheaper than the main one, but the acoustics here are magnificent! I went to many jazz and bigband concerts in this theater. I worked here two years as a volunteer, and got a lot of free nights of theater and music.
Upstairs is a beautiful space which they turned into a art-gallery, also worth checking out, it is an interesting two-floor-space.

Here I went to see the musical Titanic. It was a really good muscial and I enjoyed it really much. The theatre is one of the five biggest in the Netherlands and the biggest in the Provincie Friesland. The theatre is very beautiful inside. To take a look inside please check the link.
Dress Code: Depends on what is on show. Casual is ok, but not too casual for some shows, like musicals.

This is a small street with several pubs like Coos and Sybs. You can hop from bar to bar before going to the disco. You can also hang around here all night. It's a great place to meet locals, because all these pubs are very small, so you will find yourself talking to someone eventually.
Dress Code: The way you like it.

Cinema and Tivoli are the tow cinemas in Leeuwarden. They work together, so they never show the same movies, unless it is really popular. Every week there is a sneak preview in the two cinemas. Sneak previews are movies not yet in the cinemas, but they are showing them this one time, before the premiere. The time the sneak preview starts is 19:45. Monday in Cinema and Tuesday in Tivoli.
