Leeuwarden Off The Beaten Path

Wow, what a find, a so close to where I was staying. Perfect tranquility just a throw away. Somewhat of a rare treat as I love saunas, and these are some of the best I've enjoyed on my travels. Two Finnish saunas (above 95 deg C), a cool sauna, steam room, in/out hot jacuzzi, in/out cooling pool, outside jacuzzi, 2 plunge pools, waterfall shower, overhead bukets, infra-red room, restaurant, bar, solarium, outside seating, the works.

From the Stadhouderlijk Hotel, turn left, go up the first side alley (currently has a skip), to crossroads, turn left, and the sauna is on your right a few doors down.

I was there a while so took advantage of the month card, 100 euros for a whole month, bargain, especially as one-off entry is 16.5 euros. Other discounts available.

Visit the airbase at Open House days. This year it was on july 6 and 7. You can read and see more about it in my TRAVELLOGUE! There are pictures of stuntteams, fighter planes, helicopters and the people there.

Terschelling, OEROL Festival

From 15 until 24 June 2001 the 20th OEROL festival takes place on Terschelling. An International festival that uses the unique landscape as a fascinating decor of (street)theater, music and art.

This sky scraper is one of the newest landmarks in Leeuwarden. You can see it from a wide distance. It's very ugly when you're in the Frisian countryside and you see a thing like this on the horizon! It would fit in Rotterdam, but not here...

On my hunt for records I just was surprised by the thursday summer market at the Wilhelminaplein full of records, books and toys.

This cow wanted her picture taken so badly, I hereby give it her own space ;-)

DOKKUM is a very old town in FRYSLAND where you will find a good market and nice walks around the place.

Maybe not so obvious, but you should visit a graveyard when you're in Friesland. Especially when you're Dutch-speaking the difference between the Frisian language and the Dutch language is striking.

Hindeloopen is one of the 11 Frisian cities. It is situated on the IJsselmeer coast, in the southwest of the province.
