De Dikke Van Dale: Best place in town - for everything

Wow, whether you want great food, fine wines, great beers, music, dancing, meeting the locals or just letch at the girls, this is the place for you. Speechless really, have met all my mates here.

I met a local restaurant owner here once, and she said its one of the few places that really does have top-notch service, and the kitchens are perfect too apparently, she had a look.

Talk to the staff about what they recommend, they know the score.

The door staff are friendly too, but then that might be because I'm taller than them! Thusday nights get very busy, then Friday is busier, and Saturday crammed (they take the table out after serving food, for more space). If you're in town and want an eyeful (babes) this is the place!

Favorite Dish: A girl called...................

No honestly, all the food here is great. Try the stew, very good. The red wine selection here is superb, ask Mark (if he's working, wears glasses, usually at the top bar), and he will give the best ones, or maybe the odd bin-end or several!

The beer here is Hertog Jan, very good, they know I like the Trippel, so its in front of me before I even sit down!

Eethuis Siderius: Late night dining...........

A very popular venue. Will sometimes be found serving foor till nealy midnight. I asked then at the bar, and they sais call, if you think you might be dining out late!

Great, friendly service. Food is amazing. Try the mixed Horse's Doovrees (!), cost 8.5euros, min 2 people, but you get a huge selection, very tasty. Beer here is good too, one of the Gladerius beers, like a dubbel!

Favorite Dish: The local stew. Just the best, served with Cherizeo and the full works.

Ask for an extra portion of the roasted potatoes, they go down so well.

Further, as I tend to eat a lot, I sometimes have a Vegetarian main course as a starter, the Deep Fried Camembert. Head waiters recommendation, try accompanying with a cool glass of white port!

De Salon: Go here on sunny days
martin_nl profile photo
martin_nl 1100 reviews

This place is excellent for lunch. They have very tasty salads, good hot and cold sandwiches, and some pastries. In the summertime De Salon has a terrace right on top of a bridge over the canal on Nieuwe Stad. This bridge is right in the middle of the street, so you have an excellent view! On these sunny days from April to Septmeber you can even enjoy their homemade icecream!

They always have a very good price, basically because you pay the same price of € 17.95 always, for a three course meal. From the outside this restaurant looks very small, but it goes way into the back. If you want to eat here I recommend walking to the back of the house and sit in the library part, because the atmosphere is best here.

Favorite Dish: They have a different menu every month, so no fav.

Eetcafé Het Spijlokaal: Have tea or coffee after dinner

Eetcaf Het Spijslokaal

This restaurant is very good. It might be a bit more expensive than most other restaurants, but it is worth it. The food has been prepared with a lot of love, at least it tastes sublime! Staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is great.

Favorite Dish: Make sure to order some tea of coffee after you have finished your dinner. It is not really that the tea and coffe is so great, but it is the wooden box that comes with it. This big wooden box is filled with lots of cookies, chocolates and other friandises. The best thing is that you can eat it all!!!

De Lachende Koe

Restaurant De Lachende Koe (The Laughing Cow) is really famous among students. That is because the prices are cheap. Maybe even more important is that you also get a lot of food for the money paid! The restaurant is always busy and is a good place to meet locals.

Favorite Dish: My favourite is the rib-eye steak, really delicious!!

I didn't went to a restaurant in the heart of town, but I did go to the restaurant at the trainstation. It was a very good restaurant. The service was fast and the dinner was good and not expensive at all.
The quick service.

Favorite Dish: I tried the menu of the day: french fries with vegetables and a fried fish. It costed only 16 guilders (7 American dollars).
