Normally I don’t add reviews for hotel restaurants. But I have to make an exception for restaurant ‘Us Heit’, which belongs to Hotel Paleis Stadhouderlijk Hof.
It is part of the former palace of the House of Orange-Nassau and by far the most interesting room of the hotel.
The so called Nassauzaal is dating back to early 18th century. It became its present appearance after a renovation at the end of the 19th century. The oak wood walls do have seven paintings of several Orange-Nassau royals. The dining room has also a couple of beautiful chandeliers and a hearth.
Staying in the hotel having dinner was a ‘must do’ for us in ‘Us Heit’. We were very lucky to get a great deal; a five course surprise dinner for just € 25 (50% off). This is almost the price of a main course from the very limited choice of the (expensive) menu.
Although the staff was always explaining us the food we got on our plates, I can not remember them. ‘Us Heit’ is serving a kind of (French) haute cuisine, which means you do get huge plates with not too much food on it. With five courses (two of them were desserts !!) it was not a big problem, but I wonder if ‘just’ a main course with a starter and/or dessert would have been enough for us. Further our main course wasn’t warm/hot at all; so I do have rather mixed feelings about the restaurant.
Conclusion: for a decent (and affordable) meal I wouldn’t choose ‘Us Heit’ again, but the royal ambiance was absolutely breathtaking !!
On sunday evening, the evening before the famous 11 Cities Cycling Tour, it was already very crowded in the city centre of Bolsward.
So it was not that easy to find a free chair in a restaurant.
Same in this Italian restaurant, a so called pizzarante.
Al tables had reservation signs on them, but as I was single it was possible to sit and eat at the bar - no problema for me.
There was a huge list of different Pizzas.
I did choose Pizza Gardena - 13,40 euro
and the taste was great and the size was pretty big - normally I am a good (pizza) eater - but this one was too big for me
Favorite Dish: Pizza Gardena : with cheese, mushrooms, tuna, spicy ragù, asparagus, oignon, paprika, pine apple, ham, salami, covered with pizza sauce and cheese.
The art café "De Dream" is convenient a nice open cafe directly to the Gracht. On sunny days the terrace outside is opened. The café is a beautiful destination for day trips and cyclists.
In the gallery "De Dream" are held regularly exhibition of well-known and less well-known artists. Usually their work is to be bought also.
This is the entrance of the Sneekermeer in the 'Lijkvaart', the so called 'channel' which reached several summer residences after 300 meters.
In front you see the restaurant / sea terrace "De Klokkestoel". Dinner here is
amazing. European kitchen!
It was closed !! But the banner on the outside was inspiring !
Stoofpotje means "casserole" or stew pan.
Plate service is obvious - but in flemish is nearluy the same as - Bad service !!
Forgive me dutch people - but our language is not exactly the same !! But i love your country !
A very small restaurant - near the small harbour of Woudsend - was i thinking about a special VT friend?.
Or is the dutch food not that spectacular .
To be honest - in this area - there is no local restaurant.
It was late evening - and a friend of us just gave the tipp ! It was a good one !
Favorite Dish: Obvious ! Pizza with a lot of mushrooms and garlic - pepperones etc.
