Netherlands' Best Kept Secret!
I want to go back, NOW
As far as I experienced, you can do a lot on Terschelling. Be aware of a lot of other holiday makers doing the same what you are enjoying. The island is not very big, however, it offers quite a long cycling route around it with nice natural dune areas, beaches (also for swimming). The same applies to walking. In small villages you can do...more

Its best feature is the view on the harbour. You can see the ferries come and go and the fishing trawlers etc. It serves normal food and drink with a local touch. Cranberries are a wellknow local berry. They have here cranberrie cake, pie and wine. The last one is very sweet and very very nice indeed! I have no fav dish, i come here to enjoy the...more
It's the restaurant with the best view of Terschelling. It's located nearby the beach and the harbour, so will see all the boats passing by The tuna sandwich, I don't know why, maybe it's the atmosphere, maybe it's the fresh air, but I have never tasted a homemade tuna sandwich like that!more
The best thing about this restaurant is the ambience. The decorations are all things that were found on the beach. The chicken the restaurant is famous for his chicken. and also very good, specially for kids is the dessert called "kinderdroom". thats a dessert with ice, lemonade and ... Candy!more
The nice bar/cafe and "De Groene Weide" is in the place Hoorn. The owner is Hessel. It is a famous live muziek entertainer on Terschelling. There are a lot of peoples who visit his bar for his performance. Its free entree and in the summer he has every evening a show, in winter time only in the weekend.more

On Terschelling over two thousand good quality bicycles are available for hire. Add to this a network of excellent cycle routes and signage for easy sightseeing on two wheels.Be warned though that a level of fitness is required if you are to make headway up wind. Terschelling can be quite exposed to prevailing Noord Zee conditions.Five Euro per day...more
Our experience with the ferries to Terschelling was no so pleasant because of the various kinds of boats serving the route and the rules for taking just a few or no bikes at all on some of them. We had to spend quite a few hours hanging around the harbour waiting for the boat which "accepts" bikes or which have some bike places left. It is good to...more
What to buy:
The Cranberry is originally from Canada, but a long time ago a barrel of cranberries ended up on Terschelling due to a shipwreck.
So on Terschelling there are a lot of thing to buy which are created with or from the cranberry.
In this little museum find you a lot history, culture and maritime background of Terschelling with permanent and changing expositions.

A backpack and a bicycle luggage bag. A nice map holder for the bike is very helpful as well. As little as possible since you have to carry it around all the time. And there are laundry facilities on camp grounds. The containers should be as small as possible since, again, you gotta fit everything on your bike! Do take your camera!! Lots to take...more
On the boat the luggage will be stored on a car and they will transport that on and off the boat, so far so good (the only thing you have to do is remember the number on the car:-) ).But on the island, most of the hotels and campings do have a service for picking up the luggage, but if that isn't the case, please remember that you have to go to...more
This is the Noord Zee Strand on Terschelling late in April close to Midsland aan zee. The sunshine, sand, sea and absence of people has a high level of appeal for a quiet time.
In terms of cleanliness, this is a very pristine strand. For the wildlife enthusiast shy, grey seals can be spotted enjoying the isolation around the island.
Since this island is surrouned by the sea you can do all sorts of watersports.
But because of the always available wind and waves, surfing in all its variations is a great thing to do i guess.
We saw kite surfing while we were there. The guys seemed to have no trouble at all in surfing the waves.
