Years and years ago I visited Stavoren on a school outing. I remember it as a small, quaint village, romantically situated at the IJsselmeer.
But it seems big money overtook the village, the place seemed to be swamped with big yaughts.
White yaughts, bought with black money, as my grandfather always stated ;-)
Unique Suggestions: You can pass this town if you follow the route called "harbour cities" and just stop for a cup of coffee at the inn at the harbour, called "Vrouwe van Stavoren" (lady of Stavoren), which has been there since 1603.
Fun Alternatives: The alternative is to go with the flow and visit Stavoren and have a big white yaught as means of transportation ;-).

Hahaha, do you think that cycling is a relaxing time! Forget it! That is what they want to make you believe! Phew, it is quite hard work to bike here. There are all dunes, and you go uphill.. downhill... uphill... and downhill again. And there is the wind too! Phew, very tiring! But great!!
!
Hahaha, here I am racing uphill with my brother... ahhh, he won :-(
