    Bus station in Apeldoorn
    1 more image

Apeldoorn has a dense system of public transportation. You can use the city and regional busses to reach your destination within the city boundaries. Central point is the bus station next to the railway station in the middle of the city. That is also the place were you have to change busses.

For the city lines see: http://wiki.ovinnederland.nl/wiki/Categorie:Stadsdienst_Apeldoorn

There is another website (in Dutch) with a lot of background information about public transportation in Apeldoorn (and some other Dutch regions): www.apeldoornsopenbaarvervoer.nl

It is possible to buy a return ticket for just € 1,50 and this ticket is valid on all the lines in the city. It is even possible to change busses till 1 hour after you got in the first bus.
You can buy this ticket from the driver.

    Stadsbus Plus

    Info At Bus Stop
    1 more image

Whilst Apeldoorn is eminently walkable, and of course cycleable, for those who need to use it there seems to be a good local public bus service. This is called Stadsbus Plus and is run by the transport company Veolia.

From what I can gather from the website the single fare is 1.50 Euro no mattter the distance and the ticket is valid for one hour from the time it is validated. These can be bought from the driver and I assume correct fare is appreciated.

The buses radiate out from the bus station next to the train station and the ticket office there can advise on other fare options, routes and timetables. The bus stops are clearly marked and most have detailed route and timetable info displayed.

    Apeldoorn Railway Station

by johngayton Written Aug 10, 2010

Apeldoorn is on the main railway line cross-country from Schiphol/Amsterdam Zuid to Berlin via the border(ish) towns of Hengelo (Netherlands) and Bad Bentheim (Germany). Unless you stop off here purposefully or are connecting with a local service all you'd normally see is the train station itself. It does however make for a pleasant place to break your journey if you're in no rush as was the case with myself.

The international trains run roughly hourly from Schiphol, whilst the Dutch intercity services run about every thirty minutes from Utrecht with Deventer as their destination. Stoptrein services run between Apeldoorn and Enschende and to Zutphen with a peak frequency of two per hour.

The railway station is located on the edge of the town centre, to and from which it's about a 5/10-minute walk, and immediately next to it is the main bus station with both town and regional services for getting further afield.

The station has a little takeaway cafe and general shop and especially useful for those who are just stopping off on a whim has left-luggage lockers.

First website is the Dutch National Railway, second is Wikipedia which also has details of bus services from the station.

    Easy accessible

Frequent services to the west and east

Apeldoorn is situated more or less in the middle of the Netherlands. It is very easy accessible as well by car as by public transportation.

    Train
The city is situated along the main line between the eastern and western parts of the Netherlands; with cities like Enschede, Deventer, Amersfoort, Utrecht, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. There is also a direct connection with Schiphol Airport.
To reach the northern or southern part of the country you have to change trains in either Deventer or Utrecht.

For a timetable (also in English) see: www.ns.nl

    Bus
Apeldoorn is the 'capital' of the Veluwe, one of the most important tourist areas in the Netherlands with a lot of very interesting sites to visit. From Apeldoorn most villages on and most cities along the Veluwe are accessible by public busses with many lines and departures from the bus station in Apeldoorn. This station is situated next to the train station.

For a timetable see http://www.veolia-transport.nl/dienstregeling/ and choose as 'Regio' > Veluwe.

    Bike like the Dutch

    bicycles everywhere

Most of the tourists sites in Apeldoorn are situated outside the city centre. To reach them you will need transportation, either by bus or bicycle. Some of my ‘off the beaten path’ tips are only accessible by car or bike and sometimes very hard by public (bus)transportation.

You will notice a lot of Dutch people use bikes every day, specially for transportation within the cities.

So just join us and rent a bike from your hotel, b&b or hostel.
We do also have some bike shops which rent bikes:

    Busticket

Inside Apeldoorn you can get the bus for one Euro (this is a returnticket). Which is very cheap to get around in this town.
Every year the bus company is checking if it is still possible to use 1 Euro for the bus. Now it is available till 01 July 2008.

    Train from Schiphol to Apeldoorn

You should be able to buy a ticket from any number of yellow ticket vending machines located at baggage claim and throughout the train station in the airport. A one-way second class ticket costs EUR 14,10. There is a transfer at Amersfoort. The entire journey should take about 1:15.

Many ways to get to Apeldoorn

Car or train is perfect, although Apeldoorn has a small airfield, there are no passengerflights coming in here.
Distances are rather large in between the main tourist attractions and the town's centre. Bike is wonderful here as well as anywhere in The Netherlands and the car is also a good means to get around. Public transport is limited in Apeldoorn.

    Tunnel under the train station

Since last year there is a tunnel that goes under the train station. You can go from side of the city to the other part of the city (going to the direction of the shops in the main street).
