The food is tasty and plenty.
Beer is great and they have a bright bunch of Whiskey.
Very friendly personal.

A place providing hospitality to visitors has stood on this spot since 1882. In those days Schoonoord was an hotel that did well when Oosterbeek became popular with artists and a fashionable destination for well-off summer vistors.
WW2 and the Battle of Arnhem was to change all that. Its proximity to the Hartenstein Hotel which had become the Headquarters of the Allied British and Polish forces as the airborne invasion began.
There were very heavy casualties and an emergency field hospital was required.
The 1st British Airborne Division took Schoonoord over in September 1944 as the battle raged all around and parachutists fell to earth and more than 500 wounded men received treatment here.
Schoonoord was also a casualty and very badly damaged but after the war was rebuilt and opened its doors once more as a cafe restaurant . It soon became known to returning veterans as the Airborne Pub No.1 and continues to particpate in the many local acts of remembrance.
We were latecomers for lunch after our visit to the Museum - almost next door - so ordered simple salads. Whilst these were prepared we had time to look around and see the large collection of pre and post war memorabilia - before and after photographs, most movingly some taken at the height of the conflict and signed letters from some of the officers and men who had been here then.
Our salads were exactly as we wanted and went down very well with some excellent bread and a glass of beer.
But it is for the overall experience of being in a place that for a short time played so important a part in history that I look back on my lunch at the Schoonoord cafe.
You can drink here almost any beer you hear about. And not only beer. If I will have time enough I will try a "Bruin Biermenu"... This consist in three kinds of brown beer with more than 7% alcohol... It sounds tempting isn't it? :)
Favorite Dish: I prefere blondes... Leffe Blondes :)

Douwe Egberts is a well known brand in the Netherlands. It sells tea and coffee.
On the bags of tea and coffee there are points you can collect. With these points you can 'buy' stuff that are related to tea and coffee (like cups, spoons, etc).
When you are hand in these points at the store, you can have a tea or coffee.
Favorite Dish: Tea. No doubt about that!!
Every time my mom and I are going to Arnhem, we are going to this coffeehouse named Australian. It is mainly a chocolate store. But you can also have coffee/tea/hot chocoalte. We are taking hot chocolate. Really yummie!! :) The only down side is that it can be expensive.
Favorite Dish: Hot chocolate. Really yummie!!

After a long day tramping around the Openluchtmuseum (Open Air) outside Arnhem, we drove back into the city centre to have dinner before going our separate ways. The city centre market square in Arnhem has lots of restaurants and cafes but Pieter had heard of one in particular so that's the one we went for. It's called Bij Oma eetcafe, side by side with one called the Cavern. Bij Oma is on the left.
There are a couple of steps up into the restaurant and inside, the decor is quaint with dark wood tables and chairs, and lots of framed prints on the walls, most of them reminscent of the early 1900s graphic art. Lots of little ornaments as well and the bar in back had flowers and nice hanging lamps.
There was a large set menu on a blackboard on one wall which had quite a few choices. Usually these types of menus have only 2 or 3 choices per course but this one had about 6 or 8. Price was reasonable so we all opted for that, our Dutch friends translating the menu for us. Dinner was leisurely and the restaurant was warm and cozy. The staff was nice and they didnt' rush us.
Favorite Dish: Graham had the steak with red wine sauce and pronounced it really good. Several of us had the homemade tomato soup for starters which really went down hot and cozy after a day out in the open air. I think i had Satay but i can't remember now. I do know it was very good. The Creme Brulee for dessert was yummy as well. Everyone was happy with their choices and the price could not be beat, 19.95 euro for three courses with drinks extra, of course. For the four of us, it cost 99 euro.
The only caveat? We discovered the restaurant did not take credit cards so we had to scrape together the cash between us to pay for it.
Indonesian restaurant at the Bronbeek Museum of the Dutch East Indies. The restaurant can only be visited in combination with a ticket to the museum Bronbeek. As they sometimes cater for large groups, it would be wise to make a reservation.
Favorite Dish: We had some coffee and beer and an excellent main course for lunch: 'nasi goreng special' - that is rice with 'rendang' and chicken with delicious spices. Very good, and good value for money - we paid 36 euro for 2 persons (January 2008).
The ambience was awesome and I guess that's why it was so packed because the food was awful. We had to wait at the bar for a table. Not a long wait either, for us. But a couple that arrived 2 mins. after us waited forever at the bar and then were seated next to us and still had not had any food, even after we ate and paid for our foodl Our service was excellent also. Beers came fast at the bar too.
We had a Tortilla platter that had 6 meats and roll into a tortilla. They were all awful. They had been made a long time ago. There was one that was in the middle that was chicken in a sort of sweet sauce with cashews. I don't know what you put in your tortillas but I have never seen anyone put cashews in one. Maybe over rice. Oh, the rice was undercooked and did not have much flavor. The refried black beans had cinnamon in them and were dry and pasty.
The tortillas were very nice, fresh and soft, guacamole was good too. That's it.
We also paid 36 euro for this dish.
Stick to the tapas list, then you can try stuff for 4 euro each or so. There were some very strange things on that menu also. It was an extensive menu with only 4 or so things we could identify from a tex mex or mexican menu.
Favorite Dish: The guacamole. I wouldn't pay 36 euro for it though.
I have been invited to eat here once and I do not regret that I have accepted the invitation. The waitress is the owner of the restaurant and she is trying to do her best to make you happy.
The place is having no more than 8 tables and the photos and menu placed on the walls are making a nice ambience.
Favorite Dish: Tournedos € 16,75

I was following the reccomendation and we have asked for onion soup and tournedo(beef). The dish has been completed by a beer and desert and it costs about 60 euro for two persons.
The food was well done, well served, the waiter was very nice looking(!), the wine was good and... the decorations are great. The french music has been the best choice.
You will never regret a dinner on that restaurant, especially a romantic one :)
Favorite Dish: Mixed grill (chicken breast, pork chops, beef and lamb) combined with some baked vegetables, two separated bowls with potatoes and one with salad.
A glass with red wine was the best option to complete that dish.
This is a good restaurant with a nice atmosphere and a good food. Do not hesitate to go inside.
The service was good but the Menu was only written in Dutch. They have explained me that soon the English version will be available. You may check if they keep promises:)

Favorite Dish: Something with lamb, salad, potatoes and a glass of red wine... All costs me a bit less than 17 euros.
This is an ice salon run by my uncle Martin Schröder. He makes the Italian ice himself, getting fresh milk every day and using biological ingredients. It's the best ice I've ever tasted. He makes 40 different flavours, some very experimental like the Red Bull flavour.
Favorite Dish: I loved all of them. Not that I've tasted them all, but the ones I did tast were great!

Favorite Dish: i had lambsmeat with vegetables and special Indian bread Nana, the food was okay but dont ask for spicey thats what my friend Andriy did which he regretted hehe its was really hot!
Cafe-restaurant De derde van Mahler ('Mahler's 3rd")
Our visit coincided with the annual banquet of an Arnhem carnival Society. It's also a BookCrossing zone (http://www.bookcrossing.com), sometimes visited by Arnhem's most productive bookcrosser "FransG". So there's always something exciting going on!
