Giga's is named after a Japanese oyster variation and indeed, a chopped oyster and Dutch shrimp amuse is served before the meal.
Giga's is an up and coming restaurant with high standards. Some little mistakes did arise though, and the service could be less haughty. This a la carte restaurant is located inside the hotel Landgoed Avegoor.
Favorite Dish: They haven't learned to do a proper fried foie gras yet, it was overdone (major sin!). The beef broth was heavenly and the lobster quite good (and prepared to eat without having to take the shells off).
Intermezzo is the regular restaurant at hotel Landgoed Avegoor. They serve fixed menu's for hotel guests.
Favorite Dish: A duck terrine as a starter for one, and a potato and eel soup for the other. Steak or fish for main course and a choice of French cheese after. To finish a slice of caramelised heavenly bread and butter pudding. Nice fresh bread and butter throughout the meal.
In the old part of Ellecom there is one shop. Local bakery, grocery, tourist information, pots and pans, a bit of local art... you can find everything and nothing here.
What to buy: I bought myself a cigarette lighter, just as a memory. Because this shop has been here for as long as I can remember.
What to pay: eh, I think it was € 1,25
In the year 1000 AD there was already a wooden chapel here. In 1200 it was replaced by a sandstone chapel and a tower was added to it 50 years later. There was damage during the 2nd World War.
In the crypt there are the graves of a family Bentinck. Willem Bentinck was a close friend and advisor of the first William of Orange.
Fondest memory: We used to go to church here when on holiday.
Ellecom used to be quite prosperous thanks to the good soil and woords. It exists from the 12th century.
Fondest memory: These days it seems that Ellecom is quite popular for people who have a bit of money. So the space behind these old houses is crammed with new houses.
I remember being quite young and listening to the music band play here (on whatever occassion eludes me).
Also I remember passing by and seeing a school class having a picknick wht their teacher. They were eating raisin buns and drinking chocolate milk. I wanted some too but I didn't belong to that class. For a long time raisin buns and chocolate milk seemed to me the best thing one could eat.
