    De Dijkpoort

    by Martin_S. Updated Apr 4, 2011

De Dijkpoort, literally "Portal to the Dike", takes you from the main road which runs on the dike into the old city of Hattem. Could not find more information on the internet, the same problem we had while planning our trip, there is a wealth of information on Holland/Netherlands, but the bulk is in Dutch and when we sent requests for information in English 80% returned our request saying "we have NO information in English. I did find the follwing site: http://www.dutchfamilies.info/walkingtourhattem.htm, which has a pretty good walking tour.

    by a5floor Written Mar 15, 2009

Because I used to work for Droste (Dutch chocolate), I knew about this museum. Inside the Nederlands Bakkerij Museum there is a small exhimition of Droste stuff. You will see a lot of chocolate boxes from the 1920s till today.

    Nederlands Bakkerijmuseum 'Het Warme Land'

    by a5floor Updated Mar 14, 2009

The Nederlands Bakkerijmuseum 'Het Warme Land' is a musuem that shows how to make bread and has equipment that dates from the early 1900's. There is a special route you are following through the museum.

If you are with a group (minimum of 25 persons), there is a baker that is telling you about the bread that has been/is using during life (birth, death, easter, seasons).

There is also a small part that shows an exhibition about Droste. Droste is a Dutch brand of chocolate. It displays boxes were the chocolate has been put in. It dates from the early 1920s till now.

The museum is open from Tuesday till Saturday 10am till 5pm.

The price for entering the museum is € 6 for aduls, € 3 for children between 4 and 12 years and free for children from 0 till 3 years.

    St. Andreas Church

    by Martin_S. Written Dec 24, 2006

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

On the day we visited Hattem with our friends Hans and Eba, we could see the church from almost any point in the town, a very dominant feature. As with many of the towns we visited in Holland the church seems to be the central and most important feature around which the old towns were built. Not sure what attendance might be, but as a physical feature it stands out.

    City Symbol ?? maybe

    by Martin_S. Written Dec 24, 2006

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You can find this statuette at Hattem's western entrance. It appears to be a larger lion eating a creature with the body of a lion, but the head of a man...wonder what it means. Could not find any literature on the object so not sure. It sits on top of a water pump and is backed by a espalier, but no signs, maybe I am wrong, maybe it is just a decoration whose only purpose is to be there.

    Anton Pieck Museum

    by Martin_S. Written Dec 13, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Anton Pieck is a local artist, well known and liked in Holland. It is interesting to see the museum that he worked on designing himself before his death in 1987. The types run from still life to canal scenes, cartoons and even illustrations from childrens books. There are also exhibitions of other artists.

    Old town wall

    by a5floor Written Mar 15, 2009

Around the city centre of Hattem there is still (a part) an old wall. This wall used to be there to protect the people who were living in Hattem for wars/fights.

    Molen De Fortuyn windmill

This very beautiful windmill in Hattem is privately owned and was not open to the public during our visit there, but it is worth taking a hike along the old city wall border to see it.
