On the Sunday of the DobleOcho festival, a "Kroegentocht" (tango cafes tour) was organised in the neighborhood called Bottendaal.Tango was played and you could dance in the small room behind the bar...of course the place was small and we had to take care not to hurt the others but the atmosphere was very warm and friendly!!!! And when Jan came with his accordeon...it gaves to the place a even more typical touch!!!

Over The carrier straps (Snelbinder) bicycle bridge.

If you have enough of the city live, and you feel like walking or bicycling, don’t forget to take this bridge. It is nice way to reach to other site of the river (the Nijmegen Lent site) It is a quite way to reach the other site without cars, but with trains. The Bicycle Bridge is connected to the railway bridge.

If you reach the other site don’t forget to take a break on one of the river beaches and enjoy the boats floating by.

If you do not want to take the same way back you can take the Waal Bridge back to the City centre part. If you do this walk it takes about 40 minutes.

The Woodlands in the Nijmegen region are waiting to be explored by you. Existing areas are expanding and new once such as the Geldersepoort Nature reserves are purchased to give nature free rein again.

The forests of Nijmgen are the residence for many animals, it is a great place to discover for young and old. The moraine on witch the city of nijmegen is located was punched up by glacial ice during the second ice age. At some places the moraine reaches heights over 90 meters above Amsterdam Ordnance Datum. This means astonishing views over the woodlands, polders and river Waal.

Rent a bike and cycle through the hills of Berg en Dal (East of Nijmegen) towards Germany. Go back through the Ooijpolder. This tour will bring you through two enormous different landscapes and enchantes you with wide riverviews, pictoresk little villages (sometimes no more then a church, a café and a few farmhouses) and beautiful forests.

De Walvis ("The Whale"). That's what people call this building. Inside, technicians are overseeing and coordinating movements of ships on a long stretch of the river Waal.

Small statue of an elephant, corner Lage Markt - Priemstraat. The building itself dates back to the 17th century ; at one time in the past, this was a shop selling colonial products. Hence the elephant ...

A bathroom 15th century style :-) It is on the outside of the castle and it is nothing more than a hole in the floor. This parts of the castle hangs over the moat, so no flush toilet was needed. Simple but effective :-)

Hernen Castle is a castle with a moat around it, dating back to the 14th century. Because this castle was hardly used since the 17th century it hasn't been changed at all since those days. It is quite an extra-ordinary castle in the Netherlands, because it has some unique architecture. It is one of the important examples of defendable houses in the Netherlands.
